Château Lafleur single Vintages 1995 - 1998

Château Lafleur 1998

price per case In Bond              £1,700 per 6 bottles

Complex, aromatic notes of blackcurrant and raspberries with exotic, cedar notes. Deep, full bodied fruit characters with an elegant tannic backbone and integrated, refreshing acidity which gives poise and length to this very harmonious wine. Drink from 2015 to 2035.

“Very deep garnet/purple core. A lovely, precocious nose of blueberry, blackcurrant and well integrated new oak. A masculine palate, tannic, great definition and invigorating acidity. The mid-palate is very harmonious with pure black fruits, a touch of tobacco and something sweet (dates?) … a superb 1998.” Wine Journal, Neal Martin 96-98

Château Lafleur 1997

price per case In Bond              £1,200 per 6 bottles

Bouquet of black cherries and mulberries with mineral, spicy notes. Excellent body and balance with harmonious tannins and lively acidity. Elegant, sweet red berry and strawberry flavours, with wonderful depth and length. A superb Pomerol from this vintage. Delicious now but will provide rewarding drinking over the following decade. Drink from 2005 to 2025.

“I liked the 1997 Lafleur more than the 1996. It is one of those rare Lafleurs that lucky purchasers will be able to drink at a young age. An impressively saturated dense ruby/purple color is followed by the classic Lafleur aromas – jammy black raspberries, kirsch liqueur, prunes, and minerals. Forward, full-bodied, and sexy, with an unctuous texture, and gobs of sweet tannin, this is a luxurious, evolved Lafleur that will provide gorgeous drinking in 2 – 3 years, and last for two decades. Drink: 2000 – 2018.” Wine Advocate, April 1998, Robert Parker 91-93

Château Lafleur 1996

price per case In Bond              £1,200 per 6 bottles

Aromas of cherry, raspberry and exotic spices, this is a tightly structured wine with a firm backbone. Weighty and concentrated, with dark, brooding fruit characters and firm tannins, this wine still needs a few more years before it reaches its full potential. Drink from 2020 to 2045.

“In spite of being made primarily from Cabernet Franc, with little Merlot in the blend, this wine appears to be shaping into form, although it will undoubtedly require 15 – 20 years of cellaring. However, if you are looking for a wine to purchase for your children or grandchildren, read on. The color is a dense purple, and the wine is austere yet classic. The aromatics consist of cherry and black raspberry fruit intermixed with kirsch, minerals, and truffles. The wine is full-bodied, ferociously tannic, and superbly concentrated … This Lafleur will probably age for 50 – 60 years. Drink: 2020 – 2045”. Wine Advocate, February 1998, Robert Parker, 90-91

Château Lafleur 1995

price per case In Bond              £1,600 per 6 bottles

A remarkable effort from Jacques Guineadeau. Intense, complex, bramble fruit characters are just starting to emerge from this very concentrated wine. Full bodied and textured, it is superbly complex and incredibly long but needs a few more years to really show its potential. Drink from 2012 to 2035.

“A profound effort, the 1995’s awesome, explosive nose of black currants, raspberries, and cherries, intermingled with earth and Asian spices is hard to ignore. Huge and full-bodied, with knock-out levels of fruit, extract, and glycerin, this wine reveals a sweet inner-core of fruit, as well as mouth-searing levels of tannin, and a dense, concentrated minerality that must be tasted to be believed. Given the micro-quantities produced, the 1995 Lafleur will be almost impossible to find, but it should prove to be one of the vintage’s longest-lived efforts.” Bordeaux Book, 3rd Edition, Jan 1998, Robert Parker 95 Drink: 2005 – 2035
