Borthwick Estate wines - Paper Road Rose 2009

Whilst Marlborough and Hawkes Bay have achieved global recognition, the region of Wairarapa is still relatively undiscovered. The supremely talented Paddy Borthwick has been producing wines from the Borthwick Estate vineyards since 1996. Paddy began his career studying winemaking at the world famous Roseworthy College in Adelaide, before gaining 15 years of experience in the trade, 7 of which were spent abroad in France, Switzerland, Australia and the US.

Long ago a road was due to bisect Paddy Borthwick’s vineyards, but, unbuilt, instead it gave its name to this leading Wairarapa winery north of Wellington and well south of Hawkes Bay. This gorgeous, 13.8 per cent alcohol, dark onion-skin-hued rosé, made from the pinot noir grape and barrel-fermented, overflows with stunning, spicy strawberry fruit. Jane MacQuitty
