Vines
Hotels, Restaurants and Independent Merchants

The armit Hotel, Restaurant and Independent team offer a bespoke service to an on trade client list that reads rather like the Good Food Guide, including many of the UK's finest restaurants and hotels. In addition, the team work with independent specialists providing a core agency portfolio and fine wine at prices calculated to ensure healthy margins for those specialists.

PHIL WEEKS

Phil entered the wine trade straight after his A-levels in 1989 with Lay & Wheeler in Colchester, leaving after a year with them to do a vintage in Alsace and then Australia before returning to join Oddbins. Following seven years with them where he worked his way up to being a senior manager, Phil went travelling and returned to join Bibendum selling Fine Wine to Hotels and Restaurants. He joined armit in June 2002 and now heads the Hotel, Restaurant and Independent team dealing with customers all around the country.

AMY HUNSWORTH

After taking a gap year, Amy graduated from Oxford Brookes University in 2002 with a BSc in Hospitality Management and Tourism. Feeling the need to take more time out she travelled in Asia, Australasia and Africa. Always interested in wine from an early age, Amy took every opportunity whilst travelling to explore wine regions. Upon her return to the UK she joined the graduate scheme with Majestic Wine where she took her WSET Advanced Certificate and was promoted to Assistant Manager of the Putney store. Keen to develop further she joined armit as Sales Support to the On Trade sales team and is studying for her WSET Diploma.  Amy is now on maternity leave.

JESSICA LEIGH

The baby of the group, Jess graduated in July 2007 from the University of Manchester in English and French, and joined armit in August 2007. It was after a lovely day of wine tasting in Sancerre during her year abroad in Paris that Jess decided to embark on a career in the wine trade, in the hope of using her French and tasting lots of wine! She is therefore looking forward to starting the WSET qualifications and expanding her (currently limited!) knowledge of wine. In her spare time, she enjoys exploring London, going on city breaks, and only very recently, going to the gym!

ZEREN WILSON

Zeren made a career change via journalism, and then advertising, after experiencing a wine epiphany in Australia with a Barossa Shiraz. After a stint at Oddbins, and then at specialist independent The Winery in Maida Vale, he has developed a particular love for Californian Pinot Noir, German Riesling, and Burgundy. Working a vintage at Pinot Noir specialist Kosta Browne in Sonoma, has meant his love affair with top Californian wine continues. Zeren brings a passion for restaurants and food to the On Trade sales team, and enjoys exploring the London restaurant scene.

LUCIE PARKER

During her degree in Marine Science with French, she spent a year in Bordeaux living next to vineyards which inspired her decision to go for a career in the wine trade.  She spent 2 years working at Charles Taylor Wines then 15 months working as a Sommelier in the city but has moved from the unforgiving lifestyle of working in restaurants to join the armit trade sales team.  She enjoys pushing herself to the limit and recently completed a relay swim of the English Channel and ran the London marathon.  She is uncertain about her next challenge… suggestions welcome!

ANDREW JOHNSON

Like so many, Andrew started his career working for Oddbins where he managed a warehouse store and wholesale department in Brighton.  However, he initially worked as a classical music agent after graduating with a degree in music, followed by a thoroughly unfulfilling stint in the property market.  In the end though, the call of wine was too great.  Having travelled extensively through the vineyards of South Australia, Andrew has an affinity with wines of Barossa and McLaren Vale but is currently enjoying exploring the more restrained wines from Piedmont and Tuscany.  A keen cook, Andrew’s other passion is playing tennis for his local club – British weather notwithstanding.
