Domaine Jean Marc Boillot
There was a quiet feeling of satisfaction in the air when we tasted the 2010s at the Domaine, the wines being described as the best ever made, surpassing the 2009s.
Jean Marc Boillot's wines are usually pretty accomplished but the 2010s exceed anything which has gone before. There was a quiet feeling of satisfaction in the air when we tasted the 2010s at the Domaine, the wines being described as the best ever made, surpassing the 2009s. Quantities seem not to have suffered too much but there is an impressive freshness and purity of fruit in all the wines which should remain competitively priced even in the context of the vintage.

An elegant, floral bouquet with delicate stone fruit characters, a lifted citrus character and a hint of brioche spice. There is some lovely tension on the palate with a linear, mineral edge which balances the silky texture. Perfumed, white flower notes flutter above the delicate stone fruits on the mid palate. The most complex of the three 1er Crus, this wine has ripe citrus fruit aromas and notes of sweet apricots, honey and white flowers. There is an almost ethereal quality about it. The palate is bursting with juicy, mouthwatering grapefruit and apricot flavours with hints of wild herbs and lavender on the finish . There is an attractive minerality and a refreshing burst of zesty acidity. Drink from 2013.

Sweet raspberry and blackcurrant fruit aromas with smoky cassis notes and a hint of cedar. The fruit on the palate is crunchy and bold with dark red berry and bramble fruit notes and firm tannins. There is an attractive freshness on the finish. Allow a year or two before drinking. Drink from 2014.

A firm style with attractive, smoky cassis aromas and hints of passion fruit and freshly ground pepper. Crunchy blackberry fruit flavours are balanced by firm, round tannins and an attractive acidity. Made from 70 year old vines, this is an accomplished Pommard with concentrated fruit characters, mingled with more complex mineral notes in the background . Drink from 2015.
