Bordeaux 2005 buy the barrel

We are delighted to announce a new way to buy your Bordeaux. We have carefully selected four excellent clarets which can be purchased by the barrel. A Bordeaux barrique is 225 litres, which equates to 25 cases of 12 bottles. We suggest that this would be the perfect option for syndicated buyers, for those who need some quantity for events such as shooting parties or just those who need a steady supply of an excellent house red!

The wines that we have picked represent a mix of styles from across Bordeaux but they have been deliberately chosen so you can drink them young or cellar them for 4 or 5 years as you prefer. Why not club together with a few friends or colleagues and secure one now ahead of shipping in 2008?

Not to be outdone, Jean-Claude Berrouet, the winemaking genius at Ch. Pétrus has offered the wine of his own property, Vieux Château Saint André. The St Emilion satellites have long been a happy hunting ground for bargain buys and coupled with the skills of Berrouet, this is a wine that offers terrific quality at the price.

Inviting aromas of black cherries and plums with a toasty vanillin edge. Displaying a lovely sense of energy from the first attack, with soft ripe fruit filling the palate. Well-defined tannins in perfect balance with the fruit. Excellent. armit 16.5 pts

One of the leading winemakers in the region, Philippe Courian attempted to retire to Corbières a few years ago but could not stop the habits of a lifetime and is now back at home producing this lovely wine that we believe to be amongst the best in the area.

Finely crafted classic Bordeaux. Earth, tobacco and hints of eucalypt underlie the more overt ripe notes of chocolate covered cherries and mocha. Layers of super smooth fruit and a fine fresh finish. The descriptions flow as smoothly as the wine! - armit 16 pts

A barrel of Margaux anyone?! In a large appellation such as Margaux, it is easy to overlook certain properties but d’Arsac is one that we couldn’t possibly miss. Not just because of the renowned art collection but also because of the quality of the wine. This is serious stuff at Cru Bourgeois level and can certainly support a decade in bottle.

A long established name in the Cru Bourgeois circles, the wonderful easy style of d’Arsac is always attractive to the drinkers amongst us. Finely balanced, traditional blackcurrant and mint notes intermingled with hints of spice. Very elegant. - armit 17 points

Space limitations did not allow complete tasting notes for this Cru Bourgeois, but 2005 is the finest vintage for these wines since 1982. The range of scores for these wines should give readers an idea of just how consistent this vintage is at this level. Given the style of the vintage, most of these wines should be accessible young yet evolve for a decade or more because of their concentration and tannic structure.
