Domaine Daniel Bocquenet
Our man of hidden depths was on cracking form this year, keeping us thoroughly entertained with his comic repertoire as we tasted through his vinous version. Another winner in 2005, his wines show gorgeous dark fruit character allied to lovely freshness and perfect balance. The tasting finished with a chance to sample his 2000 Nuits St Georges aux St Julien which was tremendous and perfect now. However, Daniel was happy to confirm that in his view, the 2005s will be even better.

Nuits St Georges Aux St Julien 2005
Rich, dark fruits of the forest, savoury notes and supporting tannins are the order of the day. Great structure and drive, but will require patience. Drink from 2010.

Echézeaux Grand Cru 2005
Daniel was not content with the quality of his 2004 Echézeaux and made the tough decision to sell it off in bulk. One could expect no less from a man who strives for perfection. His 2005, however, is compelling - rich, warm black cherry notes fill the palate, followed by kirsch liqueur and just a hint of spice. Firmly structured and surprisingly powerful for an Echézeaux. Merits at least 5-6 years in bottle before approaching it. Drink from 2012.
