Domaine Darviot Perrin - 2005 En Primeur
It is always a pleasure tasting with the unassuming yet supremely talented Didier & Julie Darviot. They present an assuredness and deep understanding of their work that fills you with confidence whilst their wines speak for themselves. This was an exemplary tasting, showing a range of gorgeous wines, noticeably more mineral than many in Meursault, perhaps due to their extra cold cellars that permit a long, slow and cool élévage. In red, we have again chosen their delicious Volnay les Blanches, a firm favourite amongst the Darviot faithful. This is a well-placed lieu-dit right next door to the great Clos des Chênes and made with a delightfully gentle touch that will permit early drinking.

As expected, this is a touch tighter, more mineral and shows a well-defined, chiselled frame with really fresh acidity. A complex array of flavours including macadamia, green hazelnut, white peach and grapefruit. A wonderful wine once more from the dynamic Darviots. Drink from 2010.

Primely located just below Le Montrachet, this Chassagne is a little touch of perfection. Deliciously ripe, soft plush fruit with hints of stones, honey and minerals. Wonderful power and concentration on the finish. Drink from 2009.

Supple, easy, crowd-pleasing style that will give great pleasure in its youth. Bright, crunchy red summer fruits, a touch of cream and a hint of violets. Very pretty and hard to resist. Drink from 2008.
