Domaine de Montille
Domaine de Montille
Wines that are very pure with a restrained and mineral style in their youth but which grows magnificently.
A 17 hectare estate producing wines that are very pure with a restrained and mineral style in their youth but which grows magnificently. The estate was run for many years by Hubert de Montille and now his son Etienne has taken over, working alongside sister Alix who makes the wines both at the Domaine and at the negotiant Maison Deux Montille. In 2005 the family was able to spread into the Côte de Nuits and since 2002 most of the parcels have been farmed biodynamically. Reds will be best after 5 years of cellaring.

Beaune 1er Cru Les Aigrots £295.00
Aigrots usually produces wines that are rich and rounded. In 2010, the style is more restrained so whilst there is the fullness and concentration you get from Beaune, in this wine there is an added elegance with a saline edge. Drink from release.
Meursault Les Narvaux du Dessous £350.00
6 magnums £365.00
Exclusive to armit. This is more approachable at this youthful stage with a rounded style and silky texture. The fruit is less present initially, developing in the mouth with good energy on the long finish. This wine spends 15 months in oak barrels. Drink from 2013.
Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Le Cailleret 6 bottles £385.00
  3 magnums £400.00 Sold Out
This was tasted from a sample taken from barrel and was showing lots of minerality and elegance. Quite linear at present, once bottled will develop its top class pedigree as would be expected from this prestigious premier Cru site. Drink from 2013.
Corton Charlemagne – Grand Cru 6 bottles £395.00 Sold Out
3 magnums £410.00 Sold Out
A very powerful, intense Charlemagne from the slopes of Corton receiving the most perfect amount of exposure to the sun. Racy and mineral with the characteristic vein of acidity running through it ending with a crystalline finish. Drink from 2016.
Red price per case in bond
Beaune 1er Cru Les Perrières £295.00
The location of Les Perrières is on a predominantly limestone site and gives the wines a lovely minerality. 20% new oak was used here so the initial impact is juicy with fresh redcurrants leading onto a good structured palate where you can feel the tannins on the finish – definitely one to be kept for a few years to maximise enjoyment. Drink from 2014.
Beaune 1er Cru Les Grèves £375.00
With more clay and iron in the soil at the Grèves site, the wine is darker in character, with more black cherry, spice and richness than les Perrières. Etienne is keen on whole bunch fermentation whenever possible, and in 2010 it often was, which gives the wine additional tannic structure. In this cuvée, one third whole bunch pressing and 20% new oak gives a much more solid, muscular wine. Drink from 2014.
Pommard 1er Cru Les Pézerolles 6 bottles £275.00 Sold Out
3 magnums £290.00
Only the top vineyards in Pommard but still subject to strict selection resulting in a wine with a huge degree of finesse. More reminiscent of a Volnay than a stereotypical Pommard, very elegant with an underlying power. Drink from 2014.
Nuits St Georges 1er Cru Aux Thorey 6 bottles £210.00
3 magnums £240.00
An enticing nose of freshly crushed raspberries invites you into this wine. The palate is bursting with strawberry fruit which is kept in check by the lovely rounded tannic structure and fresh acidity. Drink from 2013.
Corton Clos du Roi Grand Cru 1 Jeroboam £285.00
Powerful and intense, the Clos du Roi is full of dark berry fruit and has the deepest colour of all the wines. There is more toasted oak present with nutmeg spice and smoke hinting at what this will become. 60% whole bunch fermentation provides the structural support needed for long ageing. Drink from 2016.
Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru 6 bottles £425.00 Sold Out
3 magnums £440.00 Sold Out
Already, the colour of the Clos de Vougeot tells you this wine means business. Darker, with purple hues, more brooding black cherry fruit on the nose and a lot more tannin on the palate. Again, here Etienne was able to carry out 100% whole bunch fermentation so this wine has the additional power and structure to last. From a site just next to the tower in the middle of the Clos. Drink from 2015.
Vosne Romanée 1er Cru Les Malconsorts 6 bottles £575.00 Sold Out
3 magnums £590.00 Sold Out
One of the estate's most prestigious wines and showing great depth and magnitude belying a superior ageing capacity. A very intense perfume, you can feel the white pepper spice from the 50% new oak. Great concentration and power on the palate which, hits your senses directly like an arrow. Long silky finish. Drink from 2016.
Vosne Romanée 1er Cru Les Malconsorts Cuvée Christiane 6 bottles £950.00 Sold Out
3 magnums £965.00 Sold Out
Named after Alix and Etienne's mother, this parcel is from the top end of Malconsorts, which effectively cuts into La Tâche. It has a darker fruit character combined with red cherries and a fresh, leafy nose. Very pretty and soft on tasting, intense and ethereal with rounded, well integrated tannins and a rich long finish. Named a "grand" Premier Cru by the family, it delivers a lot more than its Premier Cru status would indicate and is well worth ageing to unleash its potential. Drink from 2016.
