Maison Deux Montille
Alix de Montille is a great believer in wines that reflect terroir.
For this reason she likes to pick early to retain acidity and in 2010 started the harvest on 7th September for the Meursault Poruzots, finishing on 26th September. She doesn't practice batonnage and if she leaves the wine on its lees, it is on fine lees only! She set up the business in 2003 with her brother Etienne although Alix is responsible for the wines, all bought in as grapes which are made in the old Ropiteau cellars in Meursault. Only 10 to 20% new oak is used giving fresh, balanced whites.

| Montagny 1er Cru les Coères |
£145.00 |
 |
A very attractive wine with a green apple and floral nose. Plenty of citrus zing on the palate. Only 5-10% new oak was used on this wine so the style is very fresh. The vinification was completely natural with only minimal sulphur added. Drink from release.
| Pouilly Fuissé en Vergisson |
£165.00 |
 |
Bottled since August, this is showing the character of a wine that is comfortable expressing itself, "bien dans sa peau" as they say in French. Ripe apple and cinnamon aromas followed by more spice on the palate from the elevage in barrels, you feel the warmth of sunshine ripened fruit in this wine, balanced by Alix's characteristic freshness. Drink from release.
| Pernand Vergelesses 1er Cru Sous Frétille |
£220.00 |
 |
From a vineyard just north of Corton Charlemagne, the "fretille" in the name means "lively" which you feel on the palate as golden delicious apples and white blossom dance in the mouth. There is a soft, chalky minerality in this wine giving it a lovely roundness and a saline edge on the refreshing finish. Drink from 2013.
| Meursault Casses Têtes |
£295.00 |
 |
The Casse-Têtes vineyard has very shallow soil, lying on hard limestone rock and is on the same slopes as the Meursault first growths. Alix treats it more like a 1er Cru using 15% new oak. When young, Casse-Têtes can be stony and tight, with concentrated minerals and linear style. Bottle age is essential to allow the richness to surface and shine. When this was tasted in November it was showing apple pie notes and a touch of spice. Still very linear but with good density and silky mouthfeel and an acidic zing on the finish. Drink from 2014.
| Puligny Montrachet 1er Cru Champs Gains |
£450.00 |
 |
Sandwiched between Les Folatières and La Garenne, the 1er Cru of Champ Gains gets its names from fields that were reclaimed from forest. A typical Puligny Montrachet with trademark minerality, great concentration with the freshly picked green apples that make regular appearances in Alix's wines. This is a perfect example of a white burgundy that could be aged for a decade. Drink from 2013.
