Domaine Charvin

Domaine Charvin

Producing quite possibly one of the finest Côte du Rhônes we have ever tasted, Laurent Charvin is quite the unassuming character. Almost unaware of the superb quality of his wines, he calmly takes us through a great tasting of a number of different cuvées, each of them a pure, unadulterated expression of their terroir. If only he were producing more wine!

Red Wines

Côtes du Rhône 2005

We tasted three different cuves as the final assemblage had not yet been done. The first - structure, spice, quite a serious wine. The second - chest out, head held high, warm ripe black syrah fruit, very inviting. The third, almost 100% Grenache, firm tannin structure, bright acid backbone and freshly crushed fruit. Without doubt the ingredients for one of the best Cotes du Rhones available. Drink from 2008.

Châteauneuf du Pape 2005

Warm, rich spicy black cherry fruit, hints of chocolate and a dash of kir. Wonderful length and complexity already. Great power, with an underlying finesse that defines the finish. Drink from 2010.

"Ruby-red. Intense red berry aromas, with complicating notes of orange peel and potpourri. Suave and silky on the palate, with red fruit flavors taking on a lavender aspect with air. The very long and wonderfully sweet finish features fine-grained tannins and a persistent raspberry note." - 93-96 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar
