Domaine du Cayron

Domaine du Cayron is located between Avignon and Vaison la Romaine, at the foot of the Dentelles de Montmirail mountains. The vineyards cover 16 hectares in AOC Gigondas. The Estate was founded in 1840 by Georges Faraud and the property has been in the family for four generations. Today, the estate is managed by Michel Faraud’s three daughters, Delphine, Cendrine and Roseline, who are in day to day charge of the estate and make what could easily be the best wine of the village under the attentive eye of their father Michel.  - armit

We tasted all 3 of the pre-blend barrels. Barrel 1 was in the black fruit flavour spectrum with a lovely fruit profile of blackcurrant and cassis with good fruit concentration and ripe tannins. Barrel 2 was quite similar in style with lovely succulent jammy fruits and good concentration. Barrel 3 was more intense with blackberries, blackcurrants and with a touch of licorice. All perfectly balanced and charming.  - armit

Domaine du Pegau

The Estate began life as Domaine Feraud fils in the late 17th century, and the winemaking tradition was passed on through the generations. In 1987 a new chapter opened when Laurence returned to the Domaine to work with her father Paul Feraud, having finished her wine studies. Domaine du Pegau was then established. Their combined experience and talent have ensured that the authenticity and quality of their Châteauneuf du Pape is preserved, whilst bringing it to the attention of wine lovers all over the world. The character of Pegau’s Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvée Réservée comes from the 11 different vineyard plots dotted around the appellation, with each site adding its own distinctive style to the final assemblage. Domaine du Pegau is undoubtedly one of the finest properties in Châteauneuf du Pape.

"The 2009 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvée Réservée has not yet been bottled, but Paul and Laurence Feraud allowed me to taste all the major lots, and I rated all of them between 92 and 95 points. It is another big wine, but there will not be any Capo produced in 2009 according to Laurence. The regular 2009 Chateauneuf du Pape is a peppery, spicy effort with lots of unctuosity, elevated alcohol and firm tannins which Paul believes will soften with the long aging in foudre this wine sees. Big and beefy, it appears to be a better balanced, richer version of their 2005 Cuvée Réservée" -92 - 95 Robert Parker

Domaine Bois de Boursan

The Versino family originally came from Piemonte and began producing wines from rented vineyards in the Châteauneuf du Pape region in 1955. The family went on to buy 40-100 year old vines from retiring owners in the mid-80s and today they own 27 separate parcels around the appellation. You cannot help but be enchanted by the passion and enthusiasm of Jean-Paul Versino and his parents, not to mention by the outstanding wines that they produce. In the top years, they produce a cuvée Félix Châteauneuf du Pape, which is produced from the best parcels of the oldest vines.

More intensity and concentration than the traditional Châteauneuf. Creamy, ripe, succulent dark berry fruits that open out on the palate with layered complexity. Good grippy tannins and excellent minerality on the finish. Really super.  - armit
