Domaine Faiveley
Domaine Faiveley
Faiveley continues to go from strength to strength and our tasting with the charming Erwan Faiveley was one of the highlights of our visits.
The range of Grand Crus reds is hard to beat and lays down a considerable challenge to the neighbours but we also found many good things in the lower and middle ranks, including some sumptuous Premiers Crus, both red and white. When pressed to name a favourite, Erwan was quick to single out Clos de Vougeot, which he feels is one of the great successes of the vintage and we certainly thought that it was the one of the finer examples that we encountered, certainly one to consider very strongly. However, the Corton Clos des Cortons Faiveley rightly remains the flagship wine for the Domaine and to us it is consistently one of the greatest examples from this enormous Grand Cru. At more modest levels, we would also single out the monopole Gevrey Chambertin 1er Cru Clos des Issarts, one of the only biodynamic wines on the estate, and one of the most individual and distinctive wines in Gevrey, sitting just above Ruchottes Chambertin and displaying a level of minerality and finesse in its tannins more commonly seen in Chambolle, yet with the spice and wild fruit for which Gevrey is known. Highly recommended.

Meursault £240.00 Sold Out
Lovely attractive, mineral nose. Deliciously fresh 'Granny Smith' apples at the front; super mouthfilling, minerality and a touch of citrus. So complex and impressive it is more Premier Cru than Village; intensely satisfying and long finish. This is one not to be missed and perfect for drinking from release.
Puligny Montrachet 1er Cru La Garenne 6 bottles £220.00
A very expressive, almost showy wine with aromas of tropical citrus fruits, brioche and cinnamon spice. Mouthwatering citric fruit flavours combine with a taught acidity which gives wonderful freshness and energy. A salty, mineral tang adds to the complexity on the finish. Drink from 2013.
Meursault 1er Cru Charmes £495.00 Sold Out
6 magnums £505.00 Sold Out
A tiny production from less than 0.2 hectares, this is a deliciously complex wine with zesty, almost piercing, citrus aromas with more complex notes of figs and sweet dried fruits in the background. Unctuous and delicate, it glides across the palate with its silky texture and seductive stone fruit characters. Drink from 2013.
Corton Charlemagne Grand Cru 6 bottles £595.00 Sold Out
3 magnums £600.00 Sold Out
Impressively controlled and elegant with a silky smooth texture. There is a restrained power on the palate and a tight, mineral structure which hints at greatness to come. A lively, integrated acidity gives verve and precision on the finish but this wine will need some time before it reaches its full expression. Drink from 2015.
Bienvenues Bâtard Montrachet Grand Cru 6 bottles £780.00 Sold Out
3 magnums £785.00 Sold Out
Very delicate and multi-dimensional on the nose with spicy, almost tropical, citrus notes which flow over one another. The palate is stylish and expressive with zesty lemon and sweet quince fruit characters combined with exotic spices. This is a showy wine which is also very persistent and complex. Drink from 2014.
Bâtard Montrachet Grand Cru 6 bottles £895.00 Sold Out
A very impressive wine and only the third vintage to be made under the Faiveley label. On the nose there is a floral freshness and a note of zesty lemon peel with a crushed stone quality in the background. On the palate, a touch of honey combines with a refreshing salty tang with hints of grilled hazelnuts and toast and a very refreshing, mineral acidity. There is both elegance and vigour here and even greater density than the Bienvenues Drink from 2016.
Red price per case in bond

Drink from 2016.
Chambertin-Clos de Bèze Grand Cru L'ouvrée de Rodin 3 6 bottles £885.00 Sold Out
Named in honour of the legendary sculpture Auguste Rodin, who was a family friend, this is the first year this wine has been offered for sale. Made from a small plot of old vines within the Clos de Bèze, a site which has long shown remarkable potential, only 4.5 barrels were made of this very rare cuvée in 2010. Incredibly rich and voluptuous, it is magnificently complex with rich, very pure strawberry and cassis fruit characters intermingled with sweet spices, nutmeg and savoury notes. This is a superbly harmonious wine with magnificent structure and intensity. Drink from 2017.
