Domaine Follin Arbelet - 2005 En Primeur
The normally reserved Franck Follin was positively beaming when we visited him at his beautiful home in October. The key to 2005, he told us, was weeks of continual sunshine without oppressive heat. This enabled the grapes to ripen evenly and fully and with minimal rainfall, small but intensely flavoured bunches were the result. Aloxe-Corton is a much under-appreciated village. The criticism is often that the wines can have a certain austerity and rusticity. Well certainly not in 2005 where an extra degree of polish and ripeness gives wines of charm. Nowhere is this more in evidence than with Grand Cru Corton, which is a particularly handsome this year and oozes sophistication.

Aloxe Corton 2005
Deliciously bright, tight and pure red fruit with a lovely lick of acidity. Perfect balance and great drive on the finish. Drink from 2008.

Aloxe Corton 1er Cru Les Vercots 2005
Quite a serious Aloxe, the Vercots boasts pure cherry and red berry fruit, a bite of acidity and firm, grainy tannins. Great structure, drive and presence and will require 3-4 years in bottle before tackling it. Drink from 2009.

Corton Grand Cru 2005
Freshly crushed red cherry fruit with a hint of the exotic on the nose. A lovely raciness characterises this wine. Not the typically meaty, structured style of Corton as Franck's parcel is situated on the white soils usually used for Corton Charlemagne. This flows seamlessly across the palate. Wonderful length. Drink from 2012.

A really intense, noble Romanée St Vivant, packed full with fleshy, velvety black fruits. Wonderful length and breadth and a resonating finish. A wine that demands your considered attention. Drink from 2015.
