“You don’t have to be clever to make great wine in 2005” opined the smiling Jean-Marie Fourrier. What he didn’t say was that if you are very clever, you can make absolute showstoppers. He didn’t need to- his wines more than spoke for him. Once again, this was one of the true highlights of our tastings. A wonderful range from a man with genuine passion, an artist who knows every inch of his canvass and who has the delicate touch to paint the most incredible pictures. “My obsession is to preserve the purity of the fruit” said Jean-Marie. It is no overstatement to say that these are some of the purest, most refined expressions of Pinot Noir that we have found anywhere.

You may have to pinch yourself to recall that this is a village wine. Sourced from 78 year-old vines in the lieu-dits of Champ Perrier and Combe du Bas which gave a naturally small yield. This is full-bodied and ample with remarkable persistance. Drink from 2009.

Griotte Chambertin Grand Cru 2005
The name Griotte owes nothing to the small berries of the same name but to the derivation from crai and criots. The white, chalky soil here embues this wine with true elegance and cool blueberry fruit with a fragrance of violets. Wonderful, intense and completely seductive. Drink from 2012.
