Burgundy 2005

Domaine Georges Roumier

Christophe Roumier was another with the deep air of satisfaction at a job well done. “Vivacity, aromatic freshness enrobed by acidity- just what I like” he announced when showing his wines and we can’t help but agree. Christophe’s wines have long been considered amongst the greatest of the Côte de Nuits and from the first whiff of his delicious Chambolle up to the sublime heights of Bonnes Mares, we can confirm that he shows no sign whatsoever of losing his edge. Simply brilliant.

White Wine

Corton Charlemagne Grand Cru 2005

A tiny cuvée even by Christophe's standards, this has unusual finesse and charm for this vineyard. Notes of spice, fresh pineapple and a delicious fresh acidity make this a delectable treat. Drink from 2010.

Red Wines

Morey St Denis Clos de la Bussière 2005

This 2.5ha monopole continues to improve and there was a typical wild edge to the bright, crunchy redcurrant and cranberry fruit. There is a mineral core running through but also a reasonable fleshiness, making the wine more approachable. A powerful, persistant finish bodes well for the future. Drink from 2008.

Chambolle Musigny 2005

Textbook Chambolle, this is bright, direct and intense with endless finesse and charm. Impossible not to like! Drink from 2008.

Chambolle Musigny 1er Cru Les Cras  2005

Les Cras is always a mineral wine and this is no exception although the freshness allied to an alluring licquorice note adds a certain appeal in an otherwise reserved style. Give this one time, drink from 2010.

Chambolle Musigny 1er Cru Les Amoureuses 2005

Everything that you could wish for in an Amoureuses- beauty, depth, range, style, confidence and totally seductive. The flesh is alluring but kept in check by a firm, toned structure whilst a delicate floral nose adds appropriate perfume. Drink from 2011.

Ruchottes Chambertin Grand Cru 2005

The male counterpoint to the softer Charmes, this has a sense of presence and direction about it coupled with considerable vigour and energy. Very precise with full, finely-integrated tannin and wonderful depth of flavour and character. Drink from 2012.

Bonnes Mares Grand Cru 2005

A confident, strapping and surprisingly expressive Bonnes-Mares, showing real breadth and a lovely mix of licquorice, dusty chocolate, roses and wild fruit. A mineral structure as you'd expect here but a truly impressive length and a real sense of polish. Drink from 2013.
