Domaine Jean-Marc Boillot - 2005 En Primeur
After a tremendous tasting here last year, we eagerly returned to see what he had in store for us in 2005. The Rully Grésigny continues to be quite simply the best Rully we have ever found. The St Aubin is a notable success this year with the extra warmth of the vintage clearly benefiting this site. Jean-Marc’s calling card is his Pulignys and these were tremendous, with the Champ Canet perhaps a hair’s breadth in front of the Referts and Garenne on the day. The biggest surprise was the quality of the reds. The vineyards of Pommard can be unforgiving and difficult to master but rarely have we seen a Pommard as silky and classy as the Jarollières. Jean-Marc compares his reds to the 1978s and seems convinced that he has never made better. This is becoming a delightfully common refrain!

Sourced from the supple Beaune side of the village, this Pommard lacks nothing in ripeness, maintains a characteristic leathery note and has welcome soft tannins. Drink from 2009.

A softer, less rustic style of Pommard, this exudes rich, ripe black cherries and kirsch. Balanced, silky yet structured. A thoroughly accomplished wine. Jean-Marc rates this up there with his best. Drink from 2010.
