Leflaive et Associés
Leflaive et Associés
Born from her passionate belief in the benefits of growing grapes according to methods that are sustainable, environmentally responsible and in harmony with the natural world.
Anne-Claude's biodynamic négociant project, the only one of its kind as far as we are aware, was born from her passionate belief in the benefits of growing grapes according to methods that are sustainable, environmentally responsible and in harmony with the natural world. She began experimenting with biodynamics at Domaine Leflaive over 20 years ago and the results speak for themselves.
By seeking out growers who also adopt these methods, she is of course limiting her possible sources but commercial reasons are far from her thinking. Her hope is that by establishing Leflaive & Associés, more and more growers will be encouraged to examine whether they could also follow the same path. With Eric Rémy and the Leflaive team working alongside them, the growers have expertise at hand and the results are already turning heads.
All of the grapes are harvested by the Leflaive team and taken to Puligny Montrachet for vinification. The wines are raised in the cellars using exactly the same methods as for the Domaine wines. The 2010s are the second full release and are eagerly awaited following the stunning début of the 2009s last year. With volumes considerably reduced, we have also persuaded Anne-Claude to release a small reserve stock of 2009s in order to satisfy demand.
White price per case in bond
Rully Blanc 1er Cru 2010 £285.00
A beautiful, stylish wine with fresh floral notes, fine balancing acidity and excellent precision on the palate. Lively, appealing and full of energy but also with a depth of character that shows its development potential too. Drink from release.
Red price per case in bond
Monthélie Rouge 1er Cru Sur La Velle 2010 £285.00
Fragrant, juicy red fruits on the nose with a touch of licquorice in the background. With air, the wine opens further and shows its hand, releasing a whiff of smoke and light toastiness to complete the fruitiness. 25% whole bunches were used in this cuvée, just adding a little extra structure ensuring the framework for the fruit to be carried upon. Drink from 2013.
Charmes Chambertin Grand Cru 2010 6 bottles £495.00 Sold Out
With the harvest reduced to yield a mere 4 barrels, this is a rarity indeed! The cuvée is 100% whole bunch and you can see why, as the natural density and expansiveness of the fruit really coats the palate giving a sense of richness and luxury. Notes of sweet cherry liqueur and wild strawberry add extra appeal and then on the finish there is a little crack of pepper and a noticeable zippiness. Don't be in a hurry here as this is a serious Grand Cru that will need a minimum of 5 years. Drink from 2016..
2009s - limited new release price per case in bond
Rully Blanc 1er Cru 2009 £330.00 Sold Out
From a holding of 40 year-old vines in 1er Cru Les Cloux. On the nose, this is already appealing with notes of white peach and summer flowers. On the palate, a cleansing bite of acidity brings balance, with rounded textures to the fruit and an easy-natured style. There is excellent depth of material here and lovely healthy fruit dominating an engaging and refreshing finish. Drink from release.
Monthélie Rouge 1er Cru Sur La Velle £330.00
Sur La Velle is one of the best 1er Crus in Monthélie, effectively the continuation of the famous Volnay 1er Cru, Clos des Chênes. On the nose, notes of bright cherry, raspberry and a little spice are immediately evident. On the palate, the tannins are supple and the fruit is rich, vibrant and intense. There is a rawness to the wine at this stage, showing its youth, but after another winter in barrel and a year or two in bottle, it promises to be quite exquisite. Drink from 2012.
