This project complements the range of wines produced by Domaine de Montille, with limited quantities of the highest quality wines. The production is handled by the same management, the same team, in the same facility as Domaine de Montille’s wines with the aim of creating wines of the same style and quality as those from the Domaine.

History

Alix and Etienne de Montille both grew up in Volnay at the historic family estate headed by their father Hubert (now retired) and today they run the estate together. Etienne looks after the red wines while Alix takes care of the whites. In 2003 they decided to add further whites to the portfolio through the establishment of a boutique négociant business, Maison Deux Montille Soeur Frère. This is a grape purchasing operation they run in conjunction with Domaine de Montille in Volnay.

Winemaking

oth Alix and Etienne are firmly of the belief that great Burgundy must speak of its origins but that it also must be a wine in tune with the needs of today’s consumer. For Deux Montille, they are committed to buying only grapes and not must, sourced from growers with whom they have built long-term relationships in order to have the fullest control over quality. Picking is done by a team directed by Alix at the time she chooses. During vinification, they approach each vintage with sensitivity adapting practices to the material at hand rather than consistently applying any strict rules or methodology. The ultimate aim is to produce wines of great aromatic purity and finesse with length and intensity on the palate rather than size or weight.

The wines

While the range includes some of the greatest names of the Côte de Beaune such as Corton Charlemagne and Meursault Poruzots, it has at its core the fantastic value wines of villages such as Auxey Duresses, St Romain and St Aubin.
The full range of wines will be featured in the new armit 2010/11 list which will be launched at the annual tasting on Wednesday 29th September 2010.
