History
The story of the Matetic Winery begins in 1999 when the family decided to turn their hand to winemaking after recognising the virtues of the region’s climate and terroir.
The strong, professional team that Jorge and Cristian Matetic have built to drive Matetic Winery forward includes lan York (Biodynamic Consultant), Julio Bastias (Winemaker), Ken basernards (Consultant Winemaker), and Ann Kraemer (Viticultural Consultant), ensuring that Matetic wines achieve the highest quality

The Estate
Matetic vineyards is located in the Rosario Valley which is a subdivision of San Antonio Valley, a 120 kilometers from Santiago between Casablanca and San Antonio.
The valley (measuring 9,000 hectares in length) is completely enclosed and perpendicular to the sea and possesses the ideal climatic and topographic conditions for both red and white wines. The first 90 planted hectares are in all-organic soils and are producing 100 % natural grapes.
Its coastal position which provides the valley with cold nights and temperate days, along with its fantastic exposure to light means that the Rosario Valley creates fine red wines and challenges the myth that quality red wines can only be produced in warm climates.

The Winery
The new winery, designed by the Viña Matetic team in cooperation with architect Lawrence Odfjell, is a state-of-the-art winemaking facility, constructed to complement its glorious setting. This winery, which has a 300 thousand-litre capacity, relies on a gravitational-flow design that optimises management of the grapes brought in from the nearby vineyards.
The winery is made up of stainless steel tanks. All tanks are temperature-controlled to ensure a perfectly controlled fermentation. The relatively small dimensions of the tanks allow for the best extraction of concentrated aromas and flavours from the skins of the grapes. Since fermentation is carried out in small volumes, this encourages greater care for each tank and more flexibility to develop distinct components for blending, resulting in a more complete and complex finished product.

The Wines
EQ
The first range is under the EQ label, which is short for Equilibrium, a name chosen to reflect their desire to find a harmonious balance between the soil, the climate and the vines. The range consists of Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Syrah.
Corralillo
The second label is Corralillo with Pinot Noir and Syrah. This name comes from the century-old wine cellar and winery which still stand in Rosario Valley.
Matetic
The winery’s top label is their Syrah which is simply called Matetic. The Matetic team strives to make wines that truly express the characteristics of the terroir from which they are produced.
