Domaine Mischief & Mayhem - 2005 En Primeur
Even in a region as historic as Burgundy (in fact especially in a region as historic as Burgundy!) there is always room for those who want to shake things up and do things a little differently. Meet Mischief & Mayhem. This is the brainchild of two old friends, who thought it high time that their innovative and highly successful approach to wine was unleashed on the Côte d’Or. Based in Aloxe-Corton, Englishman Michael Ragg spends his time scouring cellars and vineyards, sourcing both juice and wine to vinify and bottle according to the credo of he and his Australian business partner, Michael Twelftree. The result is wines that invite you in with open arms, that beg you to find the bottom of the bottle and that leave you with a sense that life is good. Both Michaels have tremendous respect for the traditions of Burgundy and are confessed Burgundophiles but Mischief and Mayhem aims to take the best features of Burgundy- its amazing vineyards and fruit- and bring them up to date, making them relevant for today’s consumer. The wines have already gone down a storm in the US and Asia, perhaps due to the favourable press for the 2004s from a number of respected scribes. In 2005, the young project has progressed much, much further and we are delighted to be the exclusive agent for M&M in the United Kingdom.
