Often passed over in favour of the more famous wines of Bordeaux and Burgundy, France’s third classic wine producing region has some truly spectacular wines, a wonderful run of vintages and wines offering arguably the best value for money.

While 2008 was certainly a tricky vintage, there are some real gems to be found where the more experienced growers admirably rose above the difficulties presented by the tough weather conditions. As Parker says, “As in every challenging vintage, there are some outstanding efforts”. In contrast, 2007 was a dream vintage that has been collecting accolades ever since the wines first came on the market:
