Arnoux Burgundy 2005

Domaine Robert Arnoux - 2005 En Primeur

Pascal Lachaux is a natural enthusiast but he was even more animated than usual during our visit. A vintage like 2005 really suits his style. These are confident, juicy, plush wines with a sense of silkiness and luxury. As such, they are tremendously attractive in their youth but with wines of this quality, don’t miss the opportunity to keep a few bottles back to fulfil their full potential. There is excellence across the board here but in the Romanée St Vivant, Pascal has perhaps produced his greatest wine ever.

Red Wines

Bourgogne Rouge 2005

Pascal likes to bottle his Bourgogne early to keep the accent on bright red fruits. This has an easy, almost gentle attack but lacks nothing for concentration and energy. Sure to please. Drink from release.

Nuits St Georges 2005

Well presented as ever with a lovely mix of spice and fresh fruit on the attack and a pleasant intensity. A wine of simple means that will give great pleasure in the short-medium term. Drink from 2008.

Vosne Romanée 2005

Plenty of vigour here, a full, rich style of Vosne villages but without ever losing its freshness and gentle tannin. Stylish, dark fruits and a real success once more. Drink from 2009.

Chambolle Musigny 2005

Really lovely mineral freshness here. Stylish, vigourous and energetic, almost bold for a Chambolle. Drink from 2009.

Price per case in bond          £295 - SOLD OUT

Vosne Romanée Les Hautes Maizières 2005

A little more scale than the straight Vosne, the Hauts Maizières introduces itself with the fresh whiff of mint and follows through with a solid red fruit core and a strong sense of direction. Drink from 2009.

Price per case in bond          £320 - SOLD OUT

Nuits St Georges 1er cru Les Procès 2005

Cool, fresh cherry fruit with a wild edge, a touch of spice and gentle seasoning. Intense and vigorous once more. Drink from 2009.

Price per case in bond          £365 - SOLD OUT

Nuits St Georges 1er Cru Les Corvées Pagets 2005

Pascal has a tiny half hectare plot in this terrific 1er cru. This is driven and certainly does not lack for freshness or vigour. Confident and structured, a wine that demands a little more respect and promises a little more reward in return. Drink from 2010.

Price per case in bond          £420 - SOLD OUT

Vosne Romanée 1er Cru Chaumes 2005

The most overtly fruity of the terrific trio of Vosne 1er crus here, the Chaumes kicks off with a lively attack of black cherry, cassis and liqueur, happily displaying its ripeness without ever losing its purity. Drink from 2010.

Price per case in bond          £440 - SOLD OUT

Vosne Romanée 1er Cru Reignots 2005

Only 3 barrels were made of this wonderful wine. A little touch of licquorice in the tremendously ripe flavours that rip across the palate. This is rich and quite punchy but with such density and depth that you just want to dive in. Drink from 2010.

Price per case in bond          £660 - SOLD OUT

Clos Vougeot Grand Cru 2005

In this large vineyard, having a good site is really important and Pascal is lucky to have a terrific plot just under the château, bordering Grands Echézeaux. As you'd expect, this is a more masculine wine but the tannins are ripe and broad and there is a fresh red fruit core that keeps the wine running right until the end of tantalising finish. Drink from 2012.

Price per case in bond          £360 per 6 bottles - SOLD OUT

Vosne Romanée 1er Cru Les Suchots 2005

There are many who believe that Suchots is worthy of Grand Cru status and Pascal's example will do that claim no harm. A sumptuous wine full of blueberry and crème de mure, this is so velvety and classy and is once again a standout in a great range. Drink from 2012.

Price per case in bond          £380 per 6 bottles - SOLD OUT

Echézeaux Grand Cru 2005

Always an intriguing wine, this is powerful, well-presented and uncharacteristically direct and driven. Still in its infancy, this might just be the dark horse in the stable. Drink from 2011.

Price per case in bond          £395 per 6 bottles - SOLD OUT

Romanée St Vivant Grand Cru 2005

An elixir. This wine soars above the rest, imperious in its scope. Statuesque, graceful, beautiful, intelligent and sophisticated, there simply aren't enough ways to say how good this is. A brilliant achievement and hard to believe there can be anything better. Drink from 2013.

Price per case in bond          £1,000 per 6 bottles - SOLD OUT
