Domaine Rostaing

Domaine Rostaing

A purist at heart, René does almost no de-stemming, believing that thishelps to characterise the typical Côte Rôtie style, and uses very little new oak to safeguard the expression and terroir of the wines from the Northern Rhone. The very greatest Côte Rôties are known for their ability to be powerful yet elegant, light yet firmly structured and pride themselves on purity, freshness, balance. René believes the 2005s combine the 'precision de gout' of the 1991s with the power and body of the 1999s and admits this is the possibly one of the best vintages he has ever witnessed.

Rostaing Côte Rôtie

White Wines

Condrieu La Bonnette 2005

Instantly gratifying, boasting hints of lychee, mirabelle plums and a hint of spice. Wonderfully ripe and moreish. Drink from 2008.

"Light yellow. Restrained, mineral-driven white peach and quince on the nose. Taut and focused, with racy pit fruit and pear flavors and a suggestion of anise. Nothing exotic about this. There's real power and concentration here but the wine needs time to open up. I really like this understated, rather brooding style." - 91 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar

Red Wines

Côte Rôtie Cuvée Classique 2005

Wonderful expression of Côte Rôtie - cool, clean, energetic. Exudes spices, plums and hints of minerals. Pure, long finish. Drink from 2010.

"Bright purple. Fresh, mineral-driven red berry aromas are clear and spicy. Snappy red fruit flavors display striking freshness and purity, with a very light tannic bite on the back. This has excellent verve." - 89-92 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar

Côte Rôtie La Landonne 2005

Effortless. A seamless palate of minerals, stones, rich ripe black cherry fruit and just a hint of pepper. Finely structured, velvety soft fruit and a finish that promises a long and prosperous future. Drink from 2012.

"Bright ruby. Explosive dark fruits on the nose, complicated by an array of pungent floral tones. A strong boysenberry quality is complicated by a deeper and even sweeter note of chewing tobacco. Really expands on the finish, picking up a spicy, peppery quality and displaying suave, silky tannins." - 92-96 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar

Côte Rôtie Côte Blonde 2005

Layers upon layers of black cherries, brambles, chocolate, pepper and tar. A powerhouse, well-structured and undeniably made for the long-term. The 5% of Viognier does soften the wine in its youth. Drink from 2012.

"Deep ruby. Initially more closed than the Landonne but quickly opened to show deep, rich mulberry and kirsch aromas, with intense, exotic floral and spice accents. Really expands in the mouth, offering explosive, highly concentrated dark berry flavors. Fine, dusty tannins give shape and structure to this wine, while juicy acidity extends the finish. This is more elegant and graceful today than the Landonne, as well as richer and even longer. A standout in a great vintage." - 93-97 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar
