Domaine Etienne Sauzet
Domaine Etienne Sauzet
Gerard Boudot is one of Puligny's most gifted wine makers and the 2010s are stunning wines.
In a domaine this size with such an exciting range of different Crus, it is always an excellent opportunity to assess the quality of a vintage which by all accounts is quite exceptional in Puligny, certainly at Sauzet. The harvest started a few days later than normal on 17th September allowing the grapes to ripen to perfect levels of maturity, whilst maintaining an incredible persistence and freshness. The Sauzet wines combine this with an astonishing clarity and definition, perfectly expressing each terroir. Yields were down as much as 40% in some vineyards so quantities will be even more limited than normal.

While this wine lacks the explosiveness of the Champ Canet on the nose, it conceals enormous power, energy and depth. The palate is restrained and understated, with an elegant, refined fruit character which merely hints at the greatness to come and confirms its undoubted class. Drink from 2015.
Bienvenues Bâtard Montrachet Grand Cru 6 bottles £950.00

A beautifully delineated and energetic wine with an incredibly tight mineral character reminiscent of gun-flint and crushed oyster shells on the nose.
