Domaine Anne & Hervé Sigaut

If you asked any wine buyer to name his or her fantasy, chances are that “wandering into one of the world’s greatest wine villages and discovering the proverbial hidden gem” would be right at the top of the list. Thus it was our good fortune in May of this year when we were introduced to Anne & Hervé Sigaut.
The Sigaut family has been quietly going about its business for many years, out of the spotlight and probably scratching their heads at the fame enjoyed by neighbours such as de Vogüé, Roumier or Mugnier. Anne & Hervé (husband and wife) are now running the domaine full-time and as is so often the case, the change of generation has seen a new lease of life in this quiet corner of Chambolle-Musigny. These are delightful, unassuming, honest people who are totally committed to producing delicious wines from the wonderful vineyards that surround them.
Following our May visit, we have been excitedly working to put together an offer and are delighted to introduce the wines of Domaine Sigaut to you here. We have just retasted the wines again this morning and it is safe to say that everyone was utterly taken by them. These are excellent Chambolles, full of fragrance, with soft, undulating, ripe fruit and a lovely balance. They offer both immediate appeal as well as the capacity for further ageing in cellar and are at prices that would make any self-respecting

2005 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Noirots
Noirots is a little-known 1er cru that sits centrally in the village, mid-slope between Les Baudes and Les Groseilles. This has a lovely nose of fresh raspberry and summer fruit with a touch of bramble and spice starting to peek through. Beautifully balanced and already very accessible, there is a touch of licquorice on the finish and really impressive persistence. Drink 2008-2013.

2005 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Chatelots
Les Chatelots is bang in the middle of the village with Les Charmes, Les Feusselottes and Les Gruenchers its most prominent neighbours. This has a similar inviting, fleshy fruit but the character is more savoury and the nose more perfumed and fragrant. A very elegant expression with a lovely mineral core lending some backbone. Drink 2008-2013.

2005 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Fuées
Les Fuées is one of the most celebrated 1er crus, high up the slopes and adjacent to Bonnes-Mares. This shows gorgeous raspberry and fruit coulis notes on the nose but there is more tannin and structure here and the minerality really comes through mid-palate. Really impressive. Drink 2009-2015.

2005 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Sentiers
Les Sentiers sits just below Bonnes-Mares and borders the premier crus of Morey St Denis. Wines on this side of the village are often bigger and meatier and so it is here with a really dense, mouth-filling wine with tremendous purity and great length. This comes from 60 year-old vines and has a lovely sense of depth and resonance. Terrific once more. Drink 2009-2015.
