Challenging vintages tend to be overcome best by those with both the means and the commitment to make the best and there is certainly no doubting the means of Bouchard under the ownership of Joseph Henriot nor the commitment of Henriot, his talented winemaker Philippe Prost and the rest of the team. It is fair to say that Bouchard doesn’t “do” failure! Harvesting began on 24th September and was completed in 11 days, no mean feat for a Domaine of this size. Prost noticed greater concentration in the reds than the whites, especially due to the small size of the berries but as a result sees greater terroir definition in his whites. We were particularly taken with the top whites here and whilst prices now reflect their standing and consistent critical acclaim, these are great bottles no matter how you look at it.
