Rhone 2005 En Primeur

Domaine Burgaud

Domaine Burgaud is situated right at the top of a hillside overlooking Côte Rôtie, with access via an extremely hair-raising windy road; not for the faint-hearted. Bernard Burgaud took over from his father in 1980 and began to bottle his own wine, rather than selling on the grapes. He has since forged a reputation for producing exceptional Côte Rôtie. He produces just one wine, channelling all his efforts into achieving the purest expression of fruit and terroir.

Red Wines

Côte Rôtie 2006

Aromas of cloves and black fruit intermingle on the nose. Layered flavours of juicy blackcurrants and blackberries on the palate with perfect acidity and tannin to balance. Pure fruit, with excellent structure and very elegant. A beautifully crafted wine and definitely one of our favourites. - armit

Component #1: Deep ruby. Rich dark berry aromas are complemented by cured meat, tobacco and candied violet. Round and sweet, with deep, chewy blackberry and cassis flavors. Excellent finishing thrust. Component #2, from a new cask: Inky ruby. Boysenberry and licorice on the nose, with complexity added by graphite, fresh flowers and cured tobacco. Ripe dark fruit flavors are enlivened by zesty acidity, finishing with subtle grip. - 91-94 points, Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar Jan/ Feb. 2008
