Domaine Charvin

Domaine Charvin

The Charvin family built the farm amidst 4 hectares of vines in 1851. Gerard spent 2 years in Burgundy learning about winemaking, then arrived at the farm to take over the reins in 1990 at the tender age of 21. He is the 6th generation of the Charvin family to make wine on the farm, and the Estate has come on in leaps and bounds under his skillful guidance. He now bottles all their own wine himself, making Côtes du Rhône, Châteauneuf du Pape and more recently also a Vin de Pays. Gerard's main aim is to capture maximum freshness and purity of fruit in the wines. He believes that his 2005 and 2006 wines are of similar quality and drinking potential, and with similar structure; yet regarding finesse and approachability, the 2006s have the edge.

Côtes du Rhône 2006

Enticing creamy black fruits and blueberries on the palate. Sumptuously rich, ripe blueberries on the palate with velvety smooth tannins. Incredibly expressive and great purity of fruit. A very fine Côtes du Rhône.

Châteauneuf du Pape 2006

A wealth of fruit flavours on the nose. Abundant juicy fruit flavours on the palate redolent of blackberries, raspberries, blueberries and chocolate. Layered and just incredibly pure fruit, with real finesse and grace. Enormous length. Extremely highly recommended.
