Domaine Darviot Perrin - 2006 En Primeur

Didier Darviot likes to work at his own pace- his sites often see him harvesting later, his cold cellar always mean particularly slow malolactic fermentation and inevitably, his wines are shipped right at the end! However, good things come to those who wait and it is undeniable that this quiet unassuming couple have again produced some of the most exciting Meursault in the village. We also adore the Volnay Les Blanches, a vineyard that can be unforgiving, but in Darviot’s hands, it finds a little warmth and, dare we say, soul.

White Wines

Bourgogne Blanc Les Magnys 2006

Pure stonefruit nose and palate. Really lovely nectarine and almond notes with crisp, vital acidity and a touch of minerality. Plenty of flesh and fruit expression. A really elegant, long, thoroughbred wine. Shows off its provenance - from 60 y.o. vines just outside of Meursault. Drink from release.

Meursault Clos de la Velle 2006

Absolutely benchmark bouquet of melon, stonefruit, vanilla and minerals. Almost exotic on the palate with beautiful poise, richness of peach fruit and vital acidity. Long finish with lift, energy and purity - a superb example of village Meursault. Drink from 2009.

A background hint of wood sets off fresh and bright citrus aromas that run primarily to grapefruit and Meyer lemon that complement nicely rich and very Meursault flavors that are generous yet tangy and crisp, all wrapped in an energetic if only moderately complex finish. 2010+ - 86-88 points, Allen Meadow's Burghound

Meursault Tessons 2006

Really aromatic, lively grapefruit notes and mineral interplay. Beautiful poised palate - essence of stonefruits and dissolved minerals. Superb vitality and development in the mouth - honey touches emerge and the finish is both vital and harmonious. One of the best lieu-dits in the village. Drink from 2010.

Here the nose runs more toward pear and apple with a tinge of roasted hazelnut that is in perfect keeping with the rich, fresh, pure and finely detailed flavors that display an attractive touch of minerality that continues from the mid-palate all the way back to the slightly deeper and admirably chiseled finish. Lovely and palate staining and a villages that should repay 4 to 6 years of cellar time. 2011+ - 87-89 points, Allen Meadow's Burghound

Meursault 1er Cru Charmes 2006

Shy nose with touches of barley water. In the mouth more expressive notes of melon, even pineapple. Broad, rich and textured mouthfeel underpinned by crisp acidity. Stonefruit flavours emerge with delicate mineral notes and a long, pure finish. A wine that develops in the mouth and teases with its potential. Drink from 2011.

(from 45 year old vines). An expressive and beautifully layered nose of citrus, yellow orchard fruits and a hint of roasted nuts is set off by a subtle wood toast note that is also picked up by the rich, full and generous flavors that possess an attractively textured finish that delivers simply superb intensity and persistence. The depth here is seriously impressive and this is worth a look. 2012+ - 90-92 points, Allen Meadow's Burghound

Meursault 1er Cru Genevrières 2006

Very floral, almost Puligny nose! Very dry, lifted mineral palate, slightly more austere than the Charmes or Perrières. Really intense, silex minerality here with restrained stonefruits. Ethereal touches to the wine, which is only hinting at its potential. This is truly fine and refined - long, long racy finish. Brilliant! Drink from 2011.

Meursault 1er Cru Perrières 2006

Riper apricot notes on the nose - quite showy. First flavours are quite mineral with a melée of exotic and stone fruits. Again pure, vital acidity provides the spine to the wine and lifts the mineral notes. Really pure and intense, even a touch of quince emerges. Again hallmark poise, intensity and elegance. Drink from 2011

Price per case in bond          £450 - SOLD OUT

Chassagne Montrachet 1er Cru Les Blanchots Dessus 2006

The fruit expression is more tropical and assertive, with supressed minerality. Really explosive palate, structured and bold with a melée of peach and pineapple fruit. A vein of vital acidity provides a real sense of verve and balance. A forthright, expressive, but refined mini-Montrachet- very impressive. Drink from 2011

Price per case in bond          £600 - SOLD OUT

Red Wines

Volnay Les Blanches 2006

Lovely, healthy ruby and purple colour. The nose has a touch of violets and forest fruits. Crisp, dry palate with ripe, grainy tannins and lovely touches of red and blue berries. Quite silky and understated, but not without substance and style. A pretty wine for relatively early drinking. Drink from 2009.
