Savigny Les Beaune Blanc 2004

Savigny Les Beaune Les Bourgeots 2002
From an excellent lieu-dit beyond the village, on the slopes beneath the woods, Les Bourgeots is charming, pure and taut and shows the excellent concentration amid purity of fruit of the outstanding 2002 vintage. This is already showing very well and should drink well for at least another 5 years.
£195.00 add to basket
Savigny Les Beaune Aux Grands Liards 2002
From lower slopes across the valley from Bourgeots, Grand Liards is another excellent lieu-dit. The 2002 is similarly structured to the Bourgeots but is aromatically very different, with notes of clove, cinnamon and leather and would be a perfect partner for lighter game or paté.

“I have a lot of Patrick’s wines in my cellar and I drank a bottle of the Savigny-les-Beaune 1er Cru Vergelesses 1999 just the other night – it is spectacularly good.” - John Armit
Patrick Bize is one of the best winemakers in Burgundy. Were he working with a more well-known appellation he would have a reputation on a par with his friends Christophe Roumier, Jean-Marie Raveneau and Dominique Lafon. His wines have that rare quality that when you drink them you think they must cost twice as much.
Ten years ago Patrick was still a bachelor and whenever I went to Burgundy we’d go out to dinner together. One day I arrived and suggested we went to ‘La Bouzerotte’ as usual and he suggested that I might like to come to his house for dinner instead. I expressed my astonishment and said that as far as I knew his house was like a monk’s cell and that I imagined that he didn’t even have a kettle! He said there was someone that he wanted me to meet and that he needed my advice.
I arrived at the house to be introduced to this very beautiful Japanese girl called Tissa who worked in a bank in Tokyo and had been Patrick’s translator while he was in Japan. I encouraged the relationship and I’m delighted that they are now living happily in Savigny with their two children.
Patrick’s wines have become more harmonious and generous since his marriage. Patrick is a modest man of few words but strong opinions and he has a nice sense of humour. In the past he was a better red winemaker than white but intelligently decided to take on Guillaume Bott who is a brilliant white winemaker, the result is that both the reds and the whites have improved even more over the last few years.
In summary, Patrick is not only a very close friend but a great winemaker whose wines merit your close attention.
