Domaine Darviot Perrin
We have come to observe that Didier Darviot likes to work at his own pace, so it was no great surprise to learn that he had been in no real hurry to harvest either, starting on 6th September, a full week later than many neighbours.

All wines are sold En Primeur and prices are quoted In Bond. White Bourgogne Blanc Les Magnys 2007 £135.00 per 12 (IB) – please call 020 7908 0660 to order A simple nose of straw, barley, citronelle and soft stonefruits, this is direct and simple and delivers exactly as it should. Drink from release. - armit A hint of oak and very savoury. Very tingly - seems as though there is some carbon dioxide mingled in here. Well etched. Very fine and very obviously Cote d'Or white rather than Chardonnay. Drink 2009-11 - 16 points, Jancis Robinson MW, jancisrobinson.com, 26rd January 2009 (from vines planted in 1950 that were once classified as Meursault). An expressive nose of straw and citrus blossom merges into racy, defined and clean flavors that culminate in a tight, pure and lemony finish that displays a gentle hint of backend minerality. Worth considering. 2011+ - 85-87 points, Allen Meadows, Burghound Issue #35 Meursault Clos de la Velle 2007 £315.00 per 12 (IB) – please call 020 7908 0660 to order White flowers and touches of lime on the nose with distinction and bite on the palate, this is pure, clean and well judged and should be a delight after a further year or so in bottle. Drink from 2010. - armit Dense underneath yet charming and flirtatious on the nose. Really racy and filigree in texture but no shortage of flavour. Well done. Drink 2010-13 - 17 points, Jancis Robinson MW, jancisrobinson.com, 26rd January 2009 A more elegant nose features aromas of hazelnut, peach and floral notes that are very Meursault in character that lead to nicely rich and complex medium-bodied flavors that possess good if not special definition on the dry and sappy finish. 2011+ - 87-89 points, Allen Meadows, Burghound Issue #35 Meursault Tessons 2007 £350.00 per 12 (IB) – please call 020 7908 0660 to order Lean and mineral with a pleasing raw almond note, this is very primary today but with bags of potential. More scale and ambition shown here, this is a wine that impresses and finishes with a lifted, brisk and fresh feel. Drink from 2011. - armit Cool and a bit fizzy. Herb oil. Dense. Stands out and should be very racy and lovely. Long. Needs a bit of time. Drink 2010-14 - 17 points, Jancis Robinson MW, jancisrobinson.com, 26rd January 2009 A subtle touch of wood frames a notably ripe nose of white peach, apricot and roasted nut nuances that are picked up by the full, rich and mouth coating flavors with undercurrents of minerality and tension that culminate in a balanced, pure and lingering finish. This is a lovely villages. 2012+ - 88-91 points, Allen Meadows, Burghound Issue #35 Meursault 1er Cru Charmes du Dessus 2007 £495.00 per 12 (IB) – please call 020 7908 0660 to order Lemon and citric notes dominate the nose before a softer, more expressive and inviting palate. This flows easily in a rather gentle, relaxed manner yet never loses its inate drive and concentration. Drink from 2011. - armit Racy, tingly, rather exotic and rich but with lots of acidity. Well done! Drink 2011-15 - 17 points, Jancis Robinson MW, jancisrobinson.com, 26rd January 2009 (from 45 year old vines). Here too there is a discreet touch of wood toast that highlights the ripe, airy and more elegant aromas of acacia blossom and white-fleshed fruit aromas that complement generous, rich and racy flavors that possess a silky texture and a palate drenching mouth feel. This is very Charmes in character with excellent length. 2013+ - 89-92 points, Allen Meadows, Burghound Issue #35 Meursault 1er Cru Genevrières 2007 £540.00 per 12 (IB) – please call 020 7908 0660 to order Once again the Genevrières raises the bar, engaging the senses with its expressive nose, offering notes of kaffir lime, crushed rocks and lemon. On the palate the intensity and precision is all apparent although the finish shows a welcome touch of finesse. Drink from 2012. - armit Scented, herbal nose. Very tense and lively, positively vibrates on the palate. Attractive and well balanced for now or later. Drink 2009-14 - 17 points, Jancis Robinson MW, jancisrobinson.com, 26rd January 2009 An ever-so-mildly exotic fruit nose that is fresh and seductively perfumed displays a spiced citrus character that continues onto the pure, detailed intense and driving flavors brimming with energy and plenty of dry extract on the palate staining finish that lasts for several minutes. I like the balance and sense of harmony and this should reward 5 to 7 years of cellar time. 2013+ - 90-92 points, Allen Meadows, Burghound Issue #35 Meursault 1er Cru Perrières 2007 540.00 per 12 (IB) – add to basket The nose is of stone fruits, notably white peach and apricot whilst the palate shows density yet more reserve than elsewhere in the line up. Above all, there is abundant energy and plenty of life making this an impressive and polished example. Drink from 2012. - armit Not surprisingly, the Perrières possesses the most elegant nose to this point with a very high-toned nose of ultra pure lemon and spiced floral notes that complement perfectly the intense, vibrant and gorgeously vibrant flavors oozing a fine minerality on the delicious, serious and impeccably balanced finish that is both impressively long and linear. Terrific potential and the delineation is the best in the range. 2013+ - 91-93 points, Allen Meadows, Burghound Issue #35 Chassagne Montrachet 1er Cru Blanchots Dessus 2007 £750.00 per 12 (IB) – please call 020 7908 0660 to order This is glorious and distinguished on the nose, blending subtle nectarine fruit with a fragrant, airy scent. The palate is lithe yet broad, with plenty of scale and sense of luxury. The finish is rather firm and piercing, reminding the taster that this is in the early stages of its journey towards something wonderful. Drink from 2012. - armit Fragrant, mildly floral, just a hint of spiced honey. Firm and dense and drives across the palate with extreme freshness. Drink 2011-17 - 17.5 points, Julia Harding MW, jancisrobinson.com, 26rd January 2009 (Blanchots Dessus abuts Montrachet on its southern border; from a .30 ha parcel). Almost invisible wood sets off a clearly ripe but classic nose that features aromas of white flower, herb resin and green fruit that slide into nicely elegant, focused and detailed medium plus weight flavors that culminate in a persistent, powerful and agreeably dry finish. This has more depth and length than its Chassagne villages counterpart. 2013+ - 89-92 points, Allen Meadows, Burghound Issue #35 Red Beaune 1er Cru Belissands 2007 £255.00 per 12 (IB) – SOLD OUT Les Belissands lies in the heart of the appellation, just below Les Avaux and a good stone’s throw from the celebrated Clos des Mouches. The style here is supple and generous yet with definite structure, giving a wine of early appeal yet sufficient interest for its middle years. Drink from 2011. - armit Very heady and rich and flattering but with more obvious tannins than most Darviot-Perrin wines. Drink 2011-16 - 16.5 points, Jancis Robinson MW, jancisrobinson.com, 26rd January 2009 |
The wines are once again challenging the leading lights in Meursault and although the Domaine is now far from undiscovered, there is still excellent value to enjoy here.
