Domaine Gagnard Delagrange 2007

Burgundy 2007 En Primeur

Jacques Gagnard, who has just celebrated his 80th birthday, likes the liveliness and vivacity of his 2007s. In his pantheon of vintages, he recalls similar attributes in his 2002s for red – purity coupled with a correct austerity – and in his 2001s for white – brisk acidity but with excellent definition of site.

All wines are sold En Primeur and prices are quoted In Bond.

White

Chassagne Montrachet 1er Cru Morgeot 2007

A confident wine of natural depth sourced from 50 year-old vines on this fine site, there is nothing overly demonstrative about this, just plenty of vigour and freshness allied to the flesh and ballast inherent to this vineyard. Easy genius. Drink from 2010.

Racy and deep-flavoured. A bit stolid but that is the nature of Morgeot. Vibrant. Drink 2010-14 – 16.5 points, Jancis Robinson MW, jancisrobinson.com, 27th January 2009

Chassagne Montrachet 1er Cru Boudriotte 2007

This is lighter on its feet than its sibling, moving with grace and dexterity with greater vibration and the ability to really energise the tastebuds. Elegant, smooth and vital but without any hint of aggression. Drink from 2010.

Red

Chassagne Montrachet Rouge 1er Cru 2007

This is a stunning blend of 80 year-old Morgeot and 54 year-old Clos St Jean vines. The depth of fruit is there for all to see but so too is the fine grain of the tannins. Red fruit dominated, this is already very appealing but with a wine as serious as this, you have the option to drink now or enjoy it much further down the line. Drink from 2010.

Lots of acidity and grainy texture. Fresh and not very intense. Drink 2010-13 – 15.5 points, Jancis Robinson MW, jancisrobinson.com, 27th January 2009

£185.00 per 12 (IB) – add to basket

2007 vintage report

It seemed only reasonable to verify this claim directly and so bottles were duly located and their secrets unlocked. If the 2007s turn out to be half as successful as these previous vintages surely are at this address (and they show every sign of that), Jacques will be able to add another twinkle to his eye.
