All wines are sold En Primeur and prices are quoted In Bond. White Givry Blanc En Veau Vieilles Vignes 2007 Green apples, pears and gentle white flowers, with a sweet musky vanilla, this is lively and expressive with a palate that brings added zip and vigour. A touch of sweetness gives an extra sense of flesh and the ability to offer the versatility of aperitif or to accompany simple dishes. Drink from release. - armit £195.00 per 12 (IB) – add to basket This is also extremely primary and the predominant character of the nose is residual fermentation aromas though again, the lemony and mineral suffused flavors are quite fresh and energetic and the firm acidity is well buffered by copious dry extract on the moderately complex finish. Again, lovely balance with a wood treatment that is already almost completely integrated. 2011+ - 89-91 points, Allen Meadows’ Burghound, Issue 32, 2008 Softly fragrant with an aroma of honeyed melon and some oak spice. Juicy acidity gives a mouthwatering finish. Drink 2010-12 – 16 points, Julia Harding MW, jancisrobinson.com, 28th January 2009 Red Givry 1er Cru Clos Maroles 2007 The Clos Maroles is a fine, east-facing vineyard and one which ripens easily, contributing spice and earthiness. There is ample richness on the palate and prickle of pepper but a fine acid brings lift and vitality to the finish. Drink from 2010. - armit £195.00 per 12 (IB) – add to basket A clear step up in aromatic elegance with wonderfully pure aromas of red and blue pinot fruit nuanced by touches of wood spice and earth that introduce precise, detailed and stony flavors that are tight, linear and driving on the focused and dusty finish. I very much like the sense of balance and harmony here. 2013+ - 89-91 points, Allen Meadows’ Burghound, Issue 32, 2008 Very ripe dark fruit, verging on raisined, cloves? More spice than fruit on the palate and finishes a little bit dry on the finish. Drink 2010-14 – 15.5 points, Julia Harding MW, jancisrobinson.com, 28th January 2009 Givry 1er Cru Clos de la Servoisine 2007 Jean-Marc’s meticulous approach saw him reject 30% of the crop in this great vineyard but his sacrifice has paid off as we have a wine of fresh, creamy black fruits, supple juicy tannins and a touch of pepper and spice. The fruit drives this forward more obviously than the Clos Maroles but not at the expense of depth or potential complexity. Excellent quality. Drink from 2010. - armit £195.00 per 12 (IB) – add to basket The aromatic profile is completely dominated by pure wild red berry fruit notes and this purity of expression and transparency continues onto the round, intense and mouth coating flavors that possess fine precision on the overtly austere finish. This is a wonderfully elegant mineral-driven wine but one that will probably always retain a certain sense of underlying reserve and thus may not be for everyone. Still, in terms of sheer depth of material, this is the class of the cellar in 2007. 2013+ - 89-92 points, Allen Meadows’ Burghound, Issue 32, 2008 Fruit is dark and sweet but fresher than the Maroles. Fragrant sweet ripe cherries. Much fresher on the palate, delcious dark fruit and a fresh tangy, tight finish with a fine tannin grip in balance with the fruit. Drink 2011-15 – 16.5 points, Julia Harding MW, jancisrobinson.com, 28th January 2009 |
The Domaine is located in Givry and is 14 hectares in size, of which 10ha is premier cru. Jean-Marc is the 4th generation of the Joblot family to run the domaine and time spent in his company is totally enthralling. He realizes that the wines of Givry do not, today, enjoy the superstardom of some of the villages in the Côte d’Or but as a result, he is totally focused on making the best wines that he can, not for labelhunters but for those who are looking for great wines at affordable prices. ![]() As with all of the great growers, the emphasis is on the vineyard work and the quality of the fruit. The winemaking is as non-interventionalist as possible and he works with tremendous precision and attention to detail. These are terrific, natural, pure and elegant wines with plenty of depth of fruit that can be enjoyed immediately upon release but also in the medium term. |
