Domaine Mischief and Mayhem
The growth of Mischief & Mayhem might sound like a threatening trend but we can assure that it is one to be welcomed with open arms! The 2007s are the third vintage that we are offering as UK agents and already the wines have been fixtures with many of our restaurant clients as well as a considerable number of private clients.

All wines are sold En Primeur and prices are quoted In Bond. White St Romain Blanc 2007 This is the perfect apéritif – fresh flowers and lemon on the nose, nervy, pure and limey on the palate. The finish is dry, crisp and mineral and totally refreshing. Drink from release. - armit Delicate citrus and mineral aromas, slightly creamy. Much more demonstrative on the palate, deep pure citrus and juicy finish and a fine chalky texture and a lightly oaky aftertaste. Refreshing and uncomplicated but still has good length. Drink 2009-11 – 16 points, Julia Harding MW, jancisrobinson.com, 29th January 2009 £85.00 per 6 (IB) – add to basket Meursault 2007 Stonefruits, tangerine and white pepper on the nose with ripe, creamy textures on the palate and a clean finish with plenty of presence. Sourced from 2 plots of old vines (av.45 years), this is versatile Meursault that will be a great glass on its own. Drink from release. - armit Restrained with an attractively smoky reductive edge. Pretty closed now. As the St-Romain, much more power on the palate. Focused, spicy, fresh acidity, maybe just a little bit harsh on the end, though this could be the brashness of youth - hence the plus. Drink 2010-14 – 16.5+ points, Julia Harding MW, jancisrobinson.com, 29th January 2009 £130.00 per 6 (IB) – add to basket Puligny Montrachet 2007 This is an engaging Puligny that hangs a little extra flesh around a mineral backbone. There is richness and vigour here and a sumptuous finish. Drink from release. - armit Flinty and a little smoky reductive effect on the nose. More intense on the mid palate than many 2007s at this level. Good concentration of fruit in the middle and long zesty finish. More power than elegance, firm acidity. Drink 2010-14 – 16.5 points, Julia Harding MW, jancisrobinson.com, 29th January 2009 £155.00 per 6 (IB) – add to basket Puligny Montrachet 1er Cru Garenne 2007 Beautiful details on the nose here – greengage, elderflower and lime – with a resounding pure, mineral palate. This is a very fine example, beautifully crafted with balance, verve and style. Drink from 2010. - armit £230.00 per 6 (IB) – add to basket Meursault 1er Cru Charmes 2007 Notes of creme caramel, cinnamon and nutmeg on the nose with excellent definition and lift on the palate. The acidity cuts the ample palate beautifully, exposing it in all its finest detail and bringing energy throughout. Impressive. Drink from 2010. - armit The most gentle of the wines so far, at least on the nose. Shy and just fragrant. Then the oak kicks in on the palate and there's plenty of fine citrus freshness. Rich and long. Drink 2011-16 – 17 points, Julia Harding MW, jancisrobinson.com, 29th January 2009 £255.00 per 6 (IB) – add to basket Puligny Montrachet 1er Cru Champgain 2007 There is a soft, supple feel to this with a biscuity, creamy note, dense fruit and a little extra flesh. Bright, sunny and friendly, this is very easy to enjoy already but would certain benefit from a year or two in bottle. Drink from 2010. - armit £270.00 per 6 (IB) – add to basket |
In 2007, with prices asked for grapes and for juice on the up, the team decided against paying silly money for substandard juice, opting to make a smaller range and focusing only on the vineyards from which they felt the quality met their own exacting standards. As a result, there is no regular Bourgogne Chardonnay in 2007 but instead there is a quite delicious St Romain Blanc which will make for the totally perfect apéritif when it is shipped later in 2009. Every time we put these wines in people’s glasses, a smile appears on their faces and if you have yet to find out what the wines are about, now might be just the moment. |
