domaine follin arbelet - burgundy 2006

Domaine Follin Arbelet - 2006 En Primeur

Where others expressed problems, Franck Follin said he had none. Here, the fruit was ripe and healthy and there is almost a sense of puzzlement that anybody had talked of anything but a fine vintage. Franck compares it to 2002, a classic vintage that shows the terroir well and is naturally ripe but balanced. Franck is one of the greatest talents in the Côte d’Or today and were this modest man more self-promoting, he would be widely fêted. As it is, he lets the wines do the talking and these are wines that are adored by those in the know and a finer expression of the wonderful vineyards of the hill of Corton it is hard to find.

Red Wines

Aloxe Corton  2006

Lovely colour, bold bramble fruit nose. On the palate quite rich and structured with bold red fruits - almost coulis in character. Grainy, earthy tannic structure frames the fruit and the finish has a licquorice twist. Drink from 2010.

Aloxe Corton 1er Cru Les Vercots 2006

Deeper colour - more animal notes on the nose along with briary fruit. Palate quite dry and tannic to begin with then melts into a mineral, bramble fruit melée, with gamey and spice notes. Quite complex and long with a lifted fruity finish - very impressive. Drink from 2011.

Corton Grand Cru 2006

Deep colour with terrific black fruit and blueberry expression on the nose, which carries through onto the palate. Lovely fine grained tannins and refreshing acidity make for a vital and very structured wine - there is an iron grip here but also a velvet touch. Beautiful, long mineral finish. Drink from 2013.

Price per case in bond          £395 - add to basket

Romanée St Vivant Grand Cru 2006

Deep colour and a tight, mineral nose. Broad, mineral and tannic start in the mouth, there is real density and intense black fruits here which evolve as the wine warms up. Lots of glycerol and mineral intensity - concentrated and powerful, yet supple and refined. Long, long fruit/mineral finish - really fine wine. Drink from 2013.

Price per case in bond          £1,500 (by allocation only)
