Domaine Fourrier We have come to expect the very best at Domaine Fourrier but Jean-Marie confessed that 2006 was a vintage of surprises. With his meticulous attention to detail, he had noted that Gevrey experienced the same heat in July 2006 as in July 1976. The difference was the August that followed as in 2006 the cool weather allowed acidities to be maintained. Last year we were in raptures here but when Jean-Marie proclaimed that “my heart is with the 2006s” we thought he might be over-egging the pudding. After tasting though, we are sure that these are some of the greatest 2006s we have tasted and if you are one of the few that haven’t discovered Fourrier yet, now would be a very good moment to start.
back to main Burgundy 2006 page Red Wines Gevrey Chambertin 2006 A pretty, floral nose leads to a palate that shows attractive spice and leather. Poised, balanced and with excellent range for a villages. Drink from 2009. Price per case DP £331.93 - add to basket Morey St Denis 1er Cru Clos Sorbes 2006 Lovely pure black fruit and smooth, soft tannins create an impressive and highly enjoyable, vibrant wine that lacks nothing for direction. Drink from 2009. Price per case in bond £295 - SOLD OUT Vougeot 1er Cru ''Les Petits Vougeots'' 2006 Wild fruits here, especially little morello cherries. Soft and silky once more, this is a very settled wine already in complete harmony. Drink from 2009. Price per case in bond £300 - SOLD OUT Chambolle Musigny 1er Cru Les Gruenchers 2006 A really, bright energetic Chambolle with a lively attack and lovely finely crafted palate that shows considerable depth. Drink from 2009. Price per case in bond £330 - SOLD OUT Gevrey Chambertin 1er Cru Les Cherbaudes 2006 Purity and silkiness are clearly two of the watchwords at Fourrier this year. A gorgeous combination of pure black fruit, spice and the beginnings of Gevrey earthiness but with abundant freshness and vigour. Drink from 2010. Price per case in bond £350 - SOLD OUT Gevrey Chambertin 1er Cru Champeaux 2006 A more opulent showing, the Champeaux is rich and intense and brimming full of life. A wine that you could luxuriate in. Drink from 2011. Price per case in bond £375 - SOLD OUT Gevrey Chambertin 1er Cru Clos St Jacques 2006 The Clos St Jacques has arguably become Jean-Marie’s most famous wine and if this example is anything to go by, its fame is guaranteed for a while to come. A hauntingly beautiful and elegant wine that you can’t help but smile about as you taste, it opens into a broad palate with rich, satisfying fruit and well-judged spice. With such terrific energy, this wine will continue to evolve and change over many hours once open. Quite how this is not a Grand Cru is a mystery. Drink from 2012. Price per case in bond £350 per 6 - SOLD OUT Griotte Chambertin Grand Cru 2006 After the Clos St Jacques, it is no surprise that the Griotte seems a little subdued but once the slate is wiped clean, a wine of purity, intensity and sensuality is revealed. It may not be as showy as the CSJ but for sheer transparency and mineral drive, this is an exercise in how it should be done. Drink from 2012. Price per case in bond £450 per 6 - SOLD OUT |
