Back to Introduction

“It is pretty clear that Giacosa’s finest wines remain relatively well-priced within the context of the world’s finest and most collectable wines.” Antonio Galloni.

We have great pleasure introducing the new releases from Bruno Giacosa, the “maestro” of Piedmont, which includes the exceptional Barbaresco Asili and Barbaresco Santo Stefano from the outstanding 2007 vintage, and the brilliant Barolo Le Rocche del Falletto di Serralunga Riserva 2004 which is produced only in exceptional years.

The Giacosa family philosophy is based on a profound respect for local tradition, the unique qualities of each vineyard, and a driving passion that has been handed down from generation to generation.  When we tasted the new releases last November we were captivated by the sheer vitality, concentration and balance of the wines which have the potential to be some of the greatest Giacosa has produced.

Acclaim has already been adorned in the form of high scores from major critics, including Antonio Galloni, which has created eager anticipation for the release.  According to Galloni,  for many estates “the 2004s are without question the finest wines they have ever made.” He awards 99+ points to the Barolo Le Rocche del Falletto di Serralunga Riserva 2004. The Barbaresco Asili 2007 is awarded an outstanding 94 points and the Barbaresco Santo Stefano 95 points.

Giacosa’s varietal wines are also sensational.  The Dolcetto 2009 and Barbera and Nebbiolo from the 2008 vintage, as well as the exceptional Roero Arneis 2009, showed impressively well in the autumn.  A visionary pioneer, Giacosa was the first to produce the famous Roero Arneis.

These opening offer prices apply until 1st March 2010. Please note that Barolo Le Rocche del Falletto di Serralunga d’Alba Riserva 2004 is available strictly by allocation with preference given to those who balance their demands across the Giacosa range.

Barolo Le Rocche del Falletto di Serralunga d’Alba Riserva 2004 - allocation only (see below)

Price (In Bond)           £1200 per 6 bottles

The finest of the Nebbiolo grapes grown on the oldest vineyards in the best, south facing positions on the Falletto hillsides are used for what is essentially the estate’s ‘cru of crus’. Produced only as a Riserva in the finest years, the 2004 is incredibly complex and rewarding, offering superb elegance and style. It has an ample, complex and elegant bouquet reminiscent of roses, ripe dark fruits, truffle and spices. Multidimensional and exotic on the palate with notes of truffles, herbs woodland berries and smoke, it also has incredibly refined, velvety tannins. Generous but delicately poised, this is a wine of aristocratic quality. Drink from 2025 to 2045. - armit

“The 2004 Barolo Riserva Le Rocche del Falletto is off the charts. Sweet roses, menthol, tar, licorice and minerals come together in a sensual, elegant style that recalls Giacosa’s legendary 1989 Riserva Collina Rionda, a wine many observers (this one included) place at the top of the hierarchy of all-time legendary Barolos. Ripe, sensual, and utterly spellbinding, the 2004 Riserva Le Rocche del Falletto offers superb elegance and pedigree … This magical Barolo will likely merit a perfect score in the future … Anticipated maturity: 2024-2044” - 99+ points, Antonio Galloni, Wine Advocate, October 2009
