Domaine Guy Roulot - 2006 En Primeur Perfectionist Jean-Marc thought 2006 was difficult and not at same level as 2004 or 2005. He was convinced of the need for quick picking and was one of the first to get into his vineyards before the ban de vendanges was officially declared. Harsh critics we can be but only the most demanding and unyielding perfectionist (ie Jean-Marc) would find anything but pleasure here. His 2006s may not have the chiseled layers of minerals that his 2004s so gorgeously display, nor the same completeness of this 2005s but the attractive, fruitdriven style of the 2006s make for a wonderful contrast and even if Jean-Marc is not quite prepared to adorn an A*, we will gladly take every last bottle! For us, Roulot is the benchmark in the village. All prices are quoted In Bond unless otherwise stated back to main Burgundy 2006 page White Wines Bourgogne Aligoté 2006 Pretty and floral on the nose, this is a ripe Aligoté that will give immediate pleasure. Gentle peachy fruit and unusual persistence show the pedigree. Drink from release. Price per case in bond POA Monthélie 1er Cru Les Champs Fulliots 2006 Jean-Marc makes a terrific Monthélie from this outstanding 1er cru. This has a fresh delicate feel with the aromas of freshly cut white flowers, sherbet, soft peach and an easy, summery feel. Drink from release. Price per case in bond POA Meursault Vireuils 2006 Smoke and minerals characterize this distinctive wine that has become such a firm favourite amongst Jean-Marc’s loyal band of followers. Zippy, fresh acidity and the trademark Roulot precision but with a little extra richness make for an enticing glass. Drink from 2009. Price per case in bond POA (by allocation only) Meursault Tillets 2006 Peaches and nectarines on the nose of the most obviously fruit-forward of the village Meursaults. This is ripe and textured and a very complete expression. Drink from 2009. Price per case in bond POA (by allocation only) Meursault Les Luchets 2006 Lemons and little white nuts on the nose of this tender and nervy wine which recalls the 2000 to Jean-Marc (currently drinking very well!). This is pure and long but with the extra weight that will make youthful drinking that much more enjoyable. Drink from 2009. Price per case in bond POA (by allocation only) Meursault Tessons Clos Mon Plaisir 2006 A beautiful nose of lingering flowers but with the pungent notes of banana skins and oil, the suggestion of a gentle spiciness and a tight, compact structure that holds this all together effortlessly. A classy cuvée that is a little richer and perhaps needs just the little more time. Drink from 2010. Price per case in bond POA (by allocation only) Meursault 1er Cru Bouchères 2006 An expressive nose of apricot and dried fruit, this is as precise and pure as you would expect but with that extra sharp focus that the very best wines have. Already hard to resist but try to give it a year or two at least. Drink from 2010. Price per case in bond POA (by allocation only) Meursault 1er Cru Charmes 2006 A bold and muscular Charmes, almost a little out of character initially, this soon settles into its stride, showing citric peel and pith aromas, satiny textures and a promising finish. At this stage, this needed the most time in barrel to finish its élévage so looks like a slow burner. Patience required! Drink from 2011. Price per case in bond POA (by allocation only) Meursault 1er Cru Perrières 2006 An explosive lychee nose, this is a magnificent and noble wine that radiates class. Wonderfully complex, with layers of fruit and mineral with perfumes swirling around the glass. Lucky are those that find their way to a bottle! Drink from 2011. Price per case in bond POA (by allocation only) |
