All wines are sold En Primeur and prices are quoted In Bond. White Montagny 1er Cru Clos du Vieux Château 2007 £135 per 12 (IB) - add to basket There is easy, gentle peachy fruit on the nose here but on the palate a very definite ‘bite’ as the extra acidity kicks in, pepping things up. This has more rigour and seriousness than in the past but without losing its friendly versatility. The finish is dry and with a lingering floral note. Drink from release. - armit Tighter, more laced up than the Rully but a lovely depth of pure citrus fruit. Straightforward but very good and persistent. GV Drink 2009-2012 – 16.5 points, Julia Harding MW, jancisrobinson.com, 23rd January 2009 Rully 1er Cru Gresigny 2007 £145 per 12 (IB) - add to basket Sadly it looks like this will be the last vintage that Jean-Marc is to make of this wine as the contract is expiring but he is certainly going out with a bang, having produced a gorgeous, open, flowing wine that will delight those looking for quality at a keen price. Drink from release. - armit Slightly odd malty nose. Crisp and citrussy on the palate, texture a little chalky. Correct rather than exciting. Drink 2009-11 – 16 points, Julia Harding MW, jancisrobinson.com, 23rd January 2009 Meursault Vireuils 2007 £315 per 12 (IB) - SOLD OUT A lovely Meursault, full of vitality and freshness, this is sure to appeal to those who cherish minerality and zip in their wines. Drink from 2010. - armit Puligny Montrachet 2007 £340 per 12 (IB) - add to basket Notes of honeysuckle and fresh cut flowers on the nose and bright acidity on the palate give this a bright, breezy feel. There is a well judged richness on the palate to give a little more weight but the wine is beautifully balanced and recalls the excellent 2002. Drink from 2010. - armit Strongly mineral approach but fills out on the palate with pure zesty citrus, retaining the mineral undertow. Fresh, expressive and long. Drink 2010-13 – 17 points, Julia Harding MW, jancisrobinson.com, 23rd January 2009 (created from a blend of several different parcels scattered around Puligny). This also displays pronounced citrus influence with lemon zest and floral notes combining with peach and apricot aromas that lead to bigger and richer flavors though here too there is less complexity and precision than one would find in a top flight example. 2011+ - 87 points, Allen Meadows, Burghound Issue #35 Puligny Montrachet 1er Cru Garenne 2007 £530 per 12 (IB) - add to basket Bright and citric on the nose, this is a very typical Garenne showing sprightly, nervy mineral notes and bracing acidity. This should be really at its peak from 2011. - armit Mineral and refined, then better balanced on the palate than the Champs Canet. Terrific length. Drink 2011-18 – 17.5 points, Julia Harding MW, jancisrobinson.com, 23rd January 2009 Puligny Montrachet 1er Cru Referts 2007 Referts always offer greater power and density and so it is here with stonefruit and tangerine notes combining well and being driven through in a mealy, swirling mass that is still needing a little more time to find full harmony. Fine material, just be a little more patient. Drink from 2012. - armit A touch of spice, then mineral, and some spicy oak on the palate. Contained richness, fine length and a slightly creamy finish. Drink 2010-15 – 17.5 points, Julia Harding MW, jancisrobinson.com, 23rd January 2009 £530 per 12 (IB) - add to basket Puligny Montrachet 1er Cru Champ Canet 2007 £530 per 12 (IB) - add to basket This is very lovely, the most complete of the three 1er crus with terrific energy and vitality and with yellow fruits on the nose – quince and apricot in particular. Open and flattering on the palate but with plenty in reserve. Drink from 2011. - armit A whiff of smoke, then very very crisp acidity, quite marked. There’s a breadth and creaminess on the palate but I find the acidity dominates at the moment, hence the minus. Drink 2010-16 – 17 points, Julia Harding MW, jancisrobinson.com, 23rd January 2009 Mild, but not invisible, wood toast serves as a backdrop for the anise, acacia blossom and lemon/lime aromas that give way to rich, round and relatively generous middle weight flavors that possess better focus and precision on the delicious, linear and lingering finish. Solid if not special. 2012+ - 89 points, Allen Meadows, Burghound Issue #35 Red Pommard 2007 £230 per 12 (IB) - add to basket Jean-Marc makes this village blend from two contrasting parcels and the result is a wine of dark bramble fruit, black pepper with a fresh bite. The tannins are still a little jumpy following the racking but by the time everything is fully settled and properly integrated, this should be a polished example. Drink from 2010. - armit Pommard 1er Cru Jarollières 2007 £370 per 12 (IB) - add to basket There is more perfume and definition to this cuvée and also a far finer grain of tannin. Textures are almost sumptuous and the wine moves effortlessly across the palate, tantalising and energising as it goes. Very stylish, especially for the appellation. Drink from 2011. - armit |
Pommard did receive its usual hailstorm this year but fortunately for Jean-Marc, it was more severe on the Beaune side of the appellation than on the Volnay side and his silky Jarollières in particular continues to express more elegance and style than almost any other wine in the appellation. ![]() In the Chalonnais, this looks likely to be the last vintage of the Rully Gresigny as the contract is coming to an end but the wine is once again lovely and already accessible, offering terrific value for money. In Puligny, Jean-Marc continues to craft a benchmark village wine with the Champ Canet again placed on top of the premier cru podium. |
