Domaine Jean-Marc Millot - 2006 En Primeur Jean-Marc Millot is a new addition to the armit portfolio this year and we are delighted to be working with him His story is one of triumph in adversity – after many years of battling with members of his own family, his dream of finally being able to take control of his own domaine was realized in 1997 but it has taken a full decade to get to the level that he wants to be at. At the same time, he has honed his style favouring fruit-driven, fresh wines over wines of power and force. It is therefore understandable that 2006 is a vintage that so suits him and we were so impressed by his wines on our two visits that we had no hesitation in chasing down an allocation. All prices are quoted Duty Paid (DP) unless otherwise stated back to main Burgundy 2006 page Red Wines Côtes de Nuits Villages Clos des Faulques 2006 From an old vine parcel in Comblanchien, the nose is pure rose petal and berry Pinot fruit. Persistent red berry fruit and mineral notes continue across a very pure and medium bodied palate. Relatively delicate with a supple structure and bold intensity of fruit. Gentle oak and spice nuances round off the wine. Outstanding value for money and really classical. Drink from 2009. - armit (a 1.8 ha monopole in Comblanchien). A very fresh nose of earthy dark berry fruit that offers up distinct animale and underbrush notes and leads to sweet, delicious and firm but not aggressive flavors underpinned by slightly rustic tannins and good length. Solid quality. 2011+ - 86-88 points, Allen Meadow's Burghound # 29, Jan. 2008 Price per case DP £180 - add to basket Vosne Romanée 2006 Attractive spiced packed black fruit nose with a kiss of oak. Very mineral in the mouth with bramble fruits dominating. Nicely framed and energetic with underlying tension and grip. Long on the finish with again a black fruit emphasis. Fine potential. Drink from 2010. - armit Price per case DP £326 - add to basket Vosne Romanée 1er Cru Suchots 2006 Bold black berry and cherry fruit nose - plenty of vitality and verve in the mouth, with briary fruits and a twist of liquorice. Subtle spice notes also emerge and the overall effect is both structured and savoury. Again appealing dissolved oak flavours counterbalance the mineral intensity. Drink from 2011. - armit (from a .29 ha parcel raised in 25% new wood). A spicy red and black berry fruit nose where the spice component is picked up on the supple, forward and fresh light to medium weight flavors supported by buried tannins and fine length on the linear and detailed finish. This is very much in the Millot style, which is lighter but focused wines that deliver real flavor impact. 2012+ - 88-90 points, Allen Meadow's Burghound # 29, Jan. 2008 Price per case DP £444 - add to basket Echézeaux Grand Cru 2006 Elegant and fine style here, this is gentle yet persistant with pure red fruit and the intensity that comes with old vines on great sites. Drink from 2011. - armit (a 1.05 ha total from parcels in Echézeaux du Dessus, Poulaillères and Clos St. Denis measuring .69, .20 and .16 ha, respectively). This too is very fresh and bright with a darker fruit profile nuanced with an ample array of spice elements including soy, clove and anise that introduce racy, pure and punchy middle weight flavors that possess excellent depth and again, impressive flavor impact on the harmonious and wonderfully long finish. 2013+ - 90-92 points, Allen Meadow's Burghound # 29, Jan. 2008 Price per case DP £328 per 6 - add to basket Clos Vougeot Grand Cru 2006 Attractive black jam notes and spice dominate the nose. On the palate this is a big, structured wine with intensity, brooding power and sinewy, mineral character. Loads of dark fruits and vanilla oak touches - even chocolate emerges. The finish is tight but long and refined. One of the best Vougeots we tasted. Drink from 2012. - armit (from a .38 ha parcel in Grand Maupertuis). Mild reduction cannot completely hide the earthy and spicy dark berry fruit aromas that possess plenty of underbrush, forest floor and sauvage nuances that continue onto the rich, full and sweet flavors that are more elegant and refined than the typical example of Clos de Vougeot, all wrapped in a slightly austere finale of excellent length. This is a Clos de Vougeot of finesse, which is relatively rare. 2014+ - 90-92 points, Allen Meadow's Burghound # 29, Jan. 2008 Price per case DP £328 per 6 - add to basket Grands Echézeaux Grand Cru 2006 A very shy nose but a really piercing, lively palate - intensely mineral and structured. There is a real iron fist here but the underlying bramble and morello cherry fruit is all there. Power and intensity gives a haunting quality to the wine on the finish. Potentially very fine Vougeot in what is often a variable Grand Cru. Drink from 2013. - armit (from a .2 ha parcel immediately below Poulaillères in Echézeaux). Not surprisingly, this is the most complete wine in the group with its classy and ripe spicy blue fruit and cassis-infused nose that slides seamlessly into rich, pure and nicely concentrated flavors that possess terrific depth and length. It’s interesting because while this has the best raw materials, it also just has that extra element of breed which sets it apart from the other wines more than the simple differential in qualitative terms. 2014+ - 91-93 points, Allen Meadow's Burghound # 29, Jan. 2008 Price per case DP £362.80 per 6 - add to basket |
