“The progress that I look for in my work and my experiments, is always lead by one word; harmony. I am convinced that respect for the soil and the plant, as well as the human hand always act in cooperation and in the same way as nature, we will make progress in the quest for better harmony”.

- Frédéric Lafarge

“The wines have good keeping potential, presenting a judicious compromise between the sophistication of the 2000s and the charm of the 1997s. I am immensely proud of the result, and I must confess to a weakness for these vintages which call for reflection and research in order to bring out the best of the Pinot Noir.”

Domaine Michel Lafarge

Michel Lafarge and his son Frédéric are amongst the most experienced campaigners in the Côte and the Lafarge name is still one that deservedly attracts great reverance. They noted that despite the damp conditions that the roots of the vines remained reasonably dry encouraging them to sink deep in search of further water and with it the all-important trace mineral elements. In this vein, they see many similarities with 1993, one of their most successful vintages of the last 20 years. Harvesting began with the 1er Crus on 24th September, proceeding to the village and then to the generics where a little extra ripeness is always sought. The slow malo-lactics were of little concern here, with the calm, slow progress reminding them of the fable of the hare and the tortoise, offering more than enough reassurance.

Domaine Jean Grivot

Etienne Grivot scoffed at concerns over long malolactic fermentations, which are for him a good sign for wines that are built to last. A long, demanding growing season had tested Etienne’s mettle but ever-meticulous, he has risen to the occasion, ruthlessly rejecting fruit that was not up to scratch. Harvesting began on 24th September and despite noting the attractiveness of the fruit, Etienne reminded us that he, unlike some of his neighbours, does not seek immediate seduction at all costs, rather preferring the teasing, slow reveal. In this regard, he finds comparisons to his 1993s and thinks that a good number of these wines will bring more pleasure than even his wonderful 2005s.
