A Vintage Report
New Releases from Domaine Leflaive 2009
2009 started with great promise at Domaine Leflaive. Early warmth in the Spring encouraged quick vine growth and the first flowerings were noticed on 22nd May with the wines in full flower by 27th. A few storms aside in July, the season proceeded well and August was beautiful, the best since 2005, with plenty of sun and light but no extremes of heat. With the traditional 100 day cycle of the vine falling on 5th September, pickers were assembled and given their instructions with the entire Domaine harvested by 12th September.
The conditions at harvest time were perfect, 25°C in the day but fresh at night and the pickers were able to work quickly and happily. The alcoholic fermentations were quickly underway and fi nished by mid-October and some of the malo-lactics were already underway in December with the majority finished by the Spring.
It is a continued delight to be able to offer you the wines of this iconic Domaine and we are convinced that the 2009s will take their place amongst the finest vintages at Leflaive.

Wines by allocation only
Bourgogne Blanc
Sold Out (consult the rest of our Burgundy 2009 Offer for alternatives)
£235.00 per 12 bottle
£245.00 per 6 magnums
A gleaming, almost glossy appearance. Open and immediately expressive, this engages the taster from the start with ripe white fruits and a creamy underlay. On the palate, the wine is juicy and tender, flowing easily and showing excellent balance. Minerality starts to emerge towards the end, more of which should come through with time. As good as many 1er Crus, let alone village wines. Drink from release. - armit
Puligny Montrachet
Sold Out (consult the rest of our Burgundy 2009 Offer for alternatives)
£425.00 per 12 bottles
£435.00 per 6 magnums
On the nose this offers a little acacia and honeysuckle in a confident, unhurried manner. Notes of soft peach and a little spice continue on the palate but the overall feel is very natural with the finesse of a truly classic Puligny. Alongside the aromatics, there is also admirable tension, zip and energy. Again, just towards the finish, the complexity starts to reveal itself as the wine unravels a little. There is much more to come here, if you can resist. Drink from 2013. - armit
Puligny Montrachet 1er Cru Clavoillon
Sold Out (consult the rest of our Burgundy 2009 Offer for alternatives)
£575.00 per 12 bottles
£585.00 per 6 magnums
A pure, clean lemon freshness on the nose, delicate and poised with light touches of summer flowers. On the palate, there is plenty of vigour and energy but finesse too. The concentration is impressive but so too is the clarity. This is a particular success this year. Drink from 2014.- armit
Puligny Montrachet 1er Cru Folatières
Sold Out (consult the rest of our Burgundy 2009 Offer for alternatives)
£475.00 per 6 bottles
£480.00 per 3 magnums
Broad, expressive and confident on the nose with notes of honey, quince and apricot blossom. On the palate there is ripe, peachy fruit but also plenty of steel, with a smoky note embedded within and coursing minerality. The fruit dominates at this stage, showing a crystalline character which is hugely appealing. Drink from 2014. - armit
Puligny Montrachet 1er Cru Combettes
Sold Out (consult the rest of our Burgundy 2009 Offer for alternatives)
£495.00 per 6 bottles
£500.00 per 3 magnums
The most tightly wound of the 1er Crus at this stage, the Combettes shows a little smoke and flintiness on the nose, with a compact structure on the palate but plenty of energy to agitate it. There is focus and precision here but again plenty more to come. Drink from 2014..- armit
Puligny Montrachet 1er Cru Pucelles
Sold Out (consult the rest of our Burgundy 2009 Offer for alternatives)
£550.00 per 6 bottles
£555.00 per 3 magnums
£395.00 per jeroboam
This is a beautiful, very classic Pucelles, very intense and with real flair. The nose begins with a whiff of smoke, moving to iodine but a more lifted, floral fragrance takes over. The structure on the palate is thread-like, with active mineral particles laced together. There is no hint of aggression here but the wine is mouthwatering, with sharp focus and a grand, lingering finish. A great Pucelles. Drink from 2015. - armit
Bienvenues Bâtard Montrachet Grand Cru
Sold Out (consult the rest of our Burgundy 2009 Offer for alternatives)
£950.00 per 6 bottles
£955.00 per 3 magnums
£660.00 per jeroboam
Anne-Claude confesses to a big weak spot for this wine – it’s easy to see why. Lacy, pure and perfumed, this is engaging straight away, with real intensity and wonderful depth. The fruit is beautifully detailed with ripe citric fruits combining with a more crunchy apple character. The structure is of compacted layers, each one capable of revealing different nuances and flavours over time. On the mid-palate, there is a more mineral aspect already emerging, adding a serious side to the more playful aromatics. On the finish the wine shows total class, subtle and harmonious with nature captured at its most magnificent. Drink from 2016. - armit
Bâtard Montrachet Grand Cru
Sold Out (consult the rest of our Burgundy 2009 Offer for alternatives)
£1050.00 per 6 bottles
£1055.00 per 3 magnums
£725.00 per jeroboam
Less aromatically expressive than the Bienvenues at this stage but that is unlikely to worry the Bâtard. The nose begins with a little menthol and aniseed but remains subdued rather than lifting off. On the palate, the power of the wine is immediately clear but it’s an unmistakable throaty rumble in the background rather than a full-on roar. The structure is tightly wound but massively intense and brooding. There is confidence, dynamism and energy in this wine and a large degree of opulence, but always with control. Drink from 2016. - armit
Chevalier Montrachet Grand Cru
Sold Out (consult the rest of our Burgundy 2009 Offer for alternatives)
£1250.00 per 6 bottles
£1255.00 per 3 magnums
£860.00 per jeroboam
As so often, we are in a different realm with the Chevalier. The earthly power of the Bâtard is in total contrast to this celestial wine, with its ability to lift vertically in the mouth and yet always retain its poise and balance with the minimum of effort. The detailing here is exquisite, a lacy, spiral structure that floats across the palate. Notes of white flowers, lime leaves and powdered chalk are there but a list of taste descriptors can never be expressive enough for this wine. The finish is long and distinguished with a fresh burst of acidity and a strong mineral drive. Vinous poetry. Drink from 2016. - armit
