Domaine Marc Morey - 2006 En Primeur Bernard Mollard always comes across as a remarkably relaxed man, which is not a common trait for a fruit farmer! Perhaps it is because 2006 was, for him, entirely unproblematic, with an easy elevage following on from normal yields harvested in perfect conditions from 18th to 20th September. Bernard see the richness of his 1999 with more brightness, noting perhaps the acidity of the 2001s. Regardless of comparisons, these incredibly well-priced wines will be immediately enjoyable and now look ever smarter in their new and improved livery. Very versatile, a pleasing white nut note infuses the palate whilst the acidity cuts across the flesh of the wine. Drink from release. (from Chassagne vines, raised two-thirds in one-year old oak and the remainder in stainless; bottled in July). A fruity, fresh and mildly exotic nose leads to racy, detailed and punchy flavors that possess distinctly more depth than is typical on the persistent finish. Recommended as this offers excellent quality. now+ - 86 points, Allen Meadow's Burghound Price per case DP £143.90 - add to basket Chassagne Montrachet 2006 Ripe, verging on the exotic, this has also been bottled to preserve freshness. Flattering style and rather vivacious, at the moment this has all the exuberance of youth and is delicious for it but should it be given time, the dissolved minerals will reassert themselves. Drink from release. (from three separate parcels). A ripe nose of primarily peach and pear aromas that merge into middle weight flavors that offer up both good volume and fine richness on the textured and energetic finish. Again, this is lovely and balanced. 2009+ - 88 points, Allen Meadow's Burghound Price per case DP £284.90 - add to basket Chassagne Montrachet 1er Cru Chenevottes 2006 Lovely exotic scents of lychee and spices, this is another super wine that is full of energy and vitality. The easy-going style of the house is clearly in evidence but there is considerable complexity and range behind the welcoming smile. Drink from 2009. The ripest wine to this point with compote of orchard fruit and resin notes that are followed by seductively textured and mouth coating flavors blessed with ample dry extract and plenty of mid-palate sap that renders the moderately firm acid spine almost invisible. This is very forward and could easily be drunk now. 2009+ - 89 points, Allen Meadow's Burghound Price per case DP £384.80 - add to basket Chassagne Montrachet 1er Cru En Virondot 2006 A gorgeous nose of poire William, orange blossoms and Mirabelle plums. The palate is surprisingly nervy and racy and shows considerable refinement. Minerality and truffle notes are detectable too and the wine becomes more and more impressive as you work it.This is fine example from a terrific terroir. Drink from 2009. (from a whopping 2.02 ha parcel, of which the Domaine owns 89% of the vineyard; because the other owner does not declare the wine under En Virandot Morey has, in effect, what he jokingly calls a “label” monopole). This is unusually ripe for this cru as the elevated placement of the vineyard typically makes for very cool and reserved wines when young. A green fruit, citrus and pear nose merges gracefully into refined, pure and focused flavors that are also a bit more powerful than usual though there is plenty of the hallmark minerality and vibrancy on the impressively long and fine finish. Lovely juice. 2012+ - 91 points, Allen Meadow's Burghound Price per case DP £402.40 - add to basket Bâtard Montrachet Grand Cru 2006 Rich and mealy but with tingling acidity, this rarity has a commanding presence and offers pear skins and grapefruit with touches of cinnamon and outstanding length. Deserving of a little time in bottle to really strut its stuff. Drink from 2011. Price per case in bond £395 per 6 - SOLD OUT |
