Domaine Darviot Perrin Another of the most committed vignerons in the Côte de Beaune, Didier Darviot was rarely seen in 2008, spending every available moment in the vineyard, lovingly tending his vines to bring in a healthy crop. One taste of the finished product demonstrates the worth of this work and his non-interventionalist beliefs in wine making ensures that wines of the utmost purity make it into bottle… eventually. The Darviot cellar is famously cold and the slowness of the malo-lactics here means that the wines take considerable time to evolve. However, they are well and truly worth the wait and whilst they will never have the celebrity of a Coche, Roulot or Lafon, this remains a top source for Meursault lovers. Wines White Bourgogne Blanc les Magnys - £115 Meursault Clos de la Velle - £245 Meursault Les Tessons - £275 Meursault 1er Cru Les Charmes - £385 Meursault 1er Cru Les Genevrières - £425 Meursault 1er Cru Les Perrières - £425 Chassagne Montrachet 1er Cru Blanchots Dessus - £575 Domaine des Clos Grégoire Bichot is another 2008 fan who has noted beautiful surprises from a year that initially promised little. Hard at work in his vines throughout the year, Grégoire was concerned about the detrimental effects of humidity and thus conducted a strict green harvest and then selected carefully again in September. Despite this, total yield is down just 10% on 2007 reflecting well on the health of his vine stock, largely due to his biodynamic approach. With the young wines showing attractive, forward fruit, he intends to bottle before the end of the year and considers that the wines will be attractive in their youth but with enough matière for mid-term ageing. Wines Red Beaune Vieilles Vignes - £155 Beaune 1er Cru Grèves - £220 Nuits St Georges 1er Cru Les Crots - £265 |
