Whenever great wine in St Emilion and Pomerol is being discussed, you can virtually guarantee that the name “Moueix” will be part of that conversation. The Libourne house of J-P. Moueix, run today by the engaging Christian Moueix and his son Edouard, has long flown the flag for the right bank.

Jean-Pierre Moueix arrived in St. Emilion in 1929 during the depression and set up his wine merchant business 8 years later in Libourne. Today, the company is owned by his son Christian Moueix and his children, Charlotte and Edouard. The vineyards in Pomerol (North of Libourne) and Saint-Emilion (to the East) are very close to one another. This collection of 12 estates in Saint-Emilion and Pomerol promote the company’s ambition to present a unified approach to winemaking. The jewel of Pomerol is undoubtedly Château Pétrus which, following the death of Jean-Pierre Moueix in 2003, is now run by his elder son Jean-François. In Pomerol there is no classification however the small area and distinctive terroir is what sets it apart from its neighbours and promotes its status as being one of the rarest and most expensive wines in the world.
