Rosé is one of the fastest growing wine categories in the UK market, enjoying year round sales rather than being a summer holiday fling.

With a range of styles available, there is more to today’s rosé’s than just strawberries, barbeques and Wimbledon. Good, refreshing rosé, packed with plenty of delicious fruit and balanced with zingy acidity is a surprisingly versatile food match. Ideal accompaniments include sushi and seafood, more flavourful fish dishes, risotto, seafood linguine, charcuterie, rare beef and roast lamb served with roasted vegetables or salad. Negroamaro Rosato del Salento 2007

Cantele, Puglia, Italy

Made from the great indigenous red Negroamaro grape from the “heel” of Italy, this has a bright and limpid blush rosé colour. The nose sings cherry fruit and in the mouth bursts with crushed red berries and a hint of spice. Quite creamy and textured with a smooth morello cherry fruit finish. A great crowd pleaser and lovely summer appetiser.

Le Mescladis Rosé 2006

Domaine de Clavel, Coteaux du Languedoc

Aromas of red berries and creamy peach on the nose, leading onto delicious notes of white peach, cassis and succulent strawberries on the palate. Packed with plenty of ripe fruit and balanced with crisp acidity, this is a very refreshing, easy-drinking wine produced from the Côteaux du Languedoc region.

Stellenbosch, South Africa

Enticing aromas of strawberries and grapefruit dance around the glass. The palate is packed with mouthwatering delicious red fruit flavours of strawberries and cherries with underlying notes of white peach, rose petal, grapefruit and pomegranate. Textured, mouthfilling and ripe with plenty of layered flavours and beautifully balanced with elegant acidity. Produced by the saignée method, this really is an outstanding rosé from one of the top wine estates in South Africa.

A fine rosé with delicate notes of raspberries, cranberries, strawberries and lifted with a lick of refreshing citrus mid-palate. This is quite a restrained style of rosé: less opulence and elegance then a lingering red fruit finish.
