Roberto Niero

Robert Niero

Robert Niero spent 13 years working as a banker before moving to the more glamorous role of winemaker after inheriting vineyard holdings in some of Northern Rhone's finest vineyard sites. They are located on the slopes of Condrieu and Côte Rôtie overlooking the Rhône Valley and are some of the oldest vines in France. Robert believes that the 2006 vintage is superior to the 2005 vintage in that the wines offer freshness and concentration. Despite the alcohol being a little higher in the whites than usual, this is not noticeable as there is abundant crisp acidity to balance the ripe fruits. The wines display elegance and finesse, and will be drinking more readily in the short-term than recent vintages.

White Wines

Condrieu Les Ravines 2006

Lovely perfumed aromas of apricot, lemons and a touch of honey. Delicate, mouthwatering ripe fruit flavours of apricot, green apple and white peach with notes of spice. Vibrant, refreshing and with refreshing acidity.

Condrieu Coteau du Chery 2005

Green peppers, lemons and apricots. Very ripe, concentrated fruit flavours on the palate. The 2006 whites have higher alcohol levels than usual, but this is undetectable on the palate as the acidity is so good. Mouthwatering, ripe and perfectly balanced with a long, lingering finish.
