Domaine Rostaing Rene Rostaing is well known for being one of the finest producers in the Rhône Valley. His natural production methods and use of very little oak ensure that the wines he produces are consistently excellent expressions of the terroir from which they come. He is very proud of his outstanding 2006s, as they display typical terroir expression and freshness of fruit, yet are also better balanced and with greater structure than the 2005s. A vintage not to be missed. Ripe, rounded fleshy apricots and white peach on the palate. René has produced a different, riper style of Condrieu with this vintage, as the sugar content was very high and did not ferment out, so he went ahead and bottled it with residual sugar. This is the style of Condrieu that was produced during the war. Good weight of fruit on the palate with excellent concentration, with plenty of crisp acidity to balance. - armit Light gold. Ripe nectarine and tangerine aromas are deepened by subtle floral and smoky lees notes. Fleshy pit fruit flavors are gently firmed by soft acidity, gaining weight and richness on the finish. According to Rostaing, there's a touch more residual sugar in this wine than usual, which makes it "ideal to serve with asparagus, maybe even artichokes, and especially charcuterie." - 90 points, Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar Jan/ Feb. 2008 Price per case in bond £310 IB add to basket Red Wines Côte Rôtie Cuvée Classique 2006 Packed with summer fruits and layered flavours on the palate redolent of raspberries, chocolate and violets. Superb concentration but with beautiful elegance and an incredibly long finish. - armit Bright ruby-red. Suave blackberry and cassis aromas are brightened by cracked pepper and violet, with an undercurrent of espresso and tobacco adding depth. Rich and smoky, with sweet dark berry flavors, velvety tannins and gentle finishing grip. A graceful style with considerable immediate appeal and the balance to age. 89-90 points, Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar Jan/ Feb. 2008 Price per case in bond £350 IB add to basket Côte Rôtie La Landonne 2006 Blackberries, bacon fat and earthy characters on the nose. Brooding black fruit on the palate with depth and concentration and underlying minerality. Perfectly crafted with plenty of ripe fruit, crisp acidity and fine-grained tannins; very powerful, yet elegant. Classic Côte Rôtie. - armit Ruby color. Highly expressive bouquet of spicy raspberry, cassis and incense, with a strong violet quality adding complexity. Tightly wound on entry, then fleshes out in the middle palate, offering a sexy array of dark berry liqueur flavors and wonderful sap. Finishes long and sweet, with velvety tannins. "This is a great vintage for this vineyard," Rostaing commented. - 92-95 points, Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar Jan/ Feb. 2008 Price per case in bond £550 - SOLD OUT Côte Rôtie Côte Blonde 2006 Another stunning Côte Rôtie from Domaine Rostaing. Ripe, forward juicy black fruit, incredible concentration and depth of flavour. Big, powerful and brooding with definition and finesse. It gives a hint of what is to come with age. - armit Deep, bright red. Expansive bouquet of red berries, kirsch, violet, bacon fat and warm asphalt. Bright red fruit flavors are braced by suave minerality, picking up gently musky underbrush and silky tannins with air. Reminds me of a top-notch Gevrey-Chambertin in its fruit presence and texture. Finishes sweet and extremely long, with a palate-staining flavor of raspberry preserves. - 93-96 points, Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar Jan/ Feb. 2008 Price per case in bond £650 IB - SOLD OUT |
