“It’s a vintage with a good level of acidity, round, richer and without doubt less austere than 2007. The wines will be more easily accessible than the 2007s too. As ever, the exact harvest date is key as the degrees shot up very quickly towards the end of September and it was thus important not to delay picking.”

- Jean Marc Roulot

Jean-Marc Roulot noted that whereas in 2004 and 2007, he had just one factor in play to differentiate his wines – their origins – in 2008, there were multiple factors, meaning a far more demanding and challenging vintage. As ever, tasting with Roulot is a masterclass, and despite the hail damage that was particularly severe on his generic holdings, the need for careful triage and the occurrence of botrytis in some of his more precocious climats, Jean-Marc has nevertheless produced another memorable range of wines that lead the way in the village.
