All wines are sold En Primeur and prices are quoted In Bond. White Bourgogne Blanc Les Perrières 2007 £115 per 12 (IB) - add to basket Straightforward, direct but with easy, attractive style, this Perrieres will drink well in its youth but with such bright acidity, the freshness will no doubt be preserved throughout its life. Charming, uncomplicated and delicious. Drink from release - armit (100% cask). A very discreet touch of wood frames a set of aromas that also run to straw, earth, lemon and the herbal side of the aromatic spectrum while introducing nicely rich, clean, crisp and notably dry flavors that possess plenty of energy on the linear and persistent finish. An attractive Bourgogne. 2010+ - 85-87 points, Allen Meadows, Burghound Issue #35 Savigny Les Beaune Blanc 2007 £200 per 12 (IB) - add to basket White nuts and lemon on the nose, this is pure and elegant with bright acidity once more, very similar to the 2004 (which is drinking so well today) but with even more charm and flesh. Drink from 2010. - armit Very marked acidity and roundness. Lots of chew and acid. Sculpted and pretty good even if without ingredient X. Good persistence. Drink 2010-14 - 16 points, Jancis Robinson MW, jancisrobinson.com, 23rd January 2009 (100% chardonnay from a number of different parcels). This is actually slightly less elegant with a very fruity nose that offers up notes of earth and citrus where the latter transfer to the delicious flavors that display better depth than the nose, all wrapped in a lemony, even tangy finish that is bone dry. This is lovely and while frank and direct, it Savigny Les Beaune Blanc 1er Cru Aux Vergelesses 2007 £280 per 12 (IB) - add to basket Tremendously pure, there is an almost Chablisien minerality to this wine. Iodine, flint and a whiff of smoke suggest a wine that is letting the soil speak. With further time in bottle, this will no doubt add flesh and eventually emerge as a stunning and individual wine. Drink from 2011. - armit Finely mineral and just a little reductive (good). Pretty firmy reductive on the palate (struck match) but the fine, taut freshness shines through with a bright citrus edge. Drink 2010-2014 – 16.5 points, Julia Harding MW, jancisrobinson.com, 23rd January 2009 As would reasonably be expected, there is just more here in every dimension with a more complex and more elegant nose that is layered and very fresh and this refinement continues onto the nicely concentrated middle weight flavors that display evident minerality on the sappy, intense and mouth coating finish that lingers and lingers. This is a terrific Savigny blanc and recommended. 2012+ - 90 points, Allen Meadows, Burghound Issue #35 Corton Charlemagne Grand Cru 2007 £870 per 12 (IB) - add to basket This is broad shouldered and characteristically dense but still totally a work in progress, indeed it was still undergoing its malolactic fermentation in November. Patrick is happy to let things progress naturally, comfortable in the knowledge that the quality of the material here is a guarantee of great things to come. He has been more judicious with his use of oak this year, opting for 25% new oak, which is the most he has used on any of his whites. Drink from 2012. - armit (from 50+ year old vines situated in Pernand). A deft touch of wood sets off an even more restrained and more elegant nose that is ultra pure and though reserved, aromas of green fruit and white flower nuanced by hints of spice and orange peel can be found. And the purity and transparency of the nose continues onto the muscular and big-bodied flavors that offer up minerality to burn on the very firm and gorgeously long finish. This is a block of stone and it will require the better part of a decade’s worth of patience for the full potential of this beauty to fully express itself. In a word, brilliant. 2014+ - 91-94 points, Allen Meadows, Burghound Issue #35 Red Bourgogne Rouge Les Perrières 2007 £125 per 12 (IB) - add to basket Exhibiting gamey notes and wild hedgerow fruit, this Bourgogne is already open for business. Easy, direct, supple, fragrant and everything that simple, young Pinot should be. Drink from release. - armit An intensely earthy nose of red berry fruit and underbrush aromas leads to delicious, intense and delicious flavors that offer plenty of Savigny character though there is a slight edge to the finish that will probably round out with a year in bottle. - 85 points, Allen Meadows, Burghound issue #34 Savigny Les Beaune Aux Grands Liards 2007 £245 per 12 (IB) - add to basket There is admirable flesh and precision here and a natural concentration, without ever feeling forced. Fresh, vital and nervy, this will require a couple of years in bottle to soften its edges but will drink well from 2011. - armit Winemaker warns: a bit of gas, not racked. He’s right! Pretty hard to taste but the fruit is pure and shows good depth. Drink 2010-2014 – 16+ points, Julia Harding MW, jancisrobinson.com, 23rd January 2009 A classic Savigny nose of an iron-infused and pungently earthy mix of wild red berry fruits that introduces rich, full, naturally sweet and detailed medium-bodied flavors that display a light touch of backend minerality on the complex and lingering finish. This is a lovely villages and worth a look. - 87-89 points, Allen Meadows, Burghound issue #34 Savigny Les Beaune 1er Cru Aux Vergelesses 2007 £275 per 12 (IB) - add to basket The class of the Savignys, as it always is, this is pure, refined and elegant with outstanding potential. Always a wine with suprising staying power, this has enough juicy fruit to promote youthful access but it will undoubtedly continue well into a second decade. Drink from 2012. - armit Similarly gassy but clearly has lots of dark, lightly spiced fruit and rounded tannins. Drink 2011-15 – 16.5 points, Julia Harding MW, jancisrobinson.com, 23rd January 2009 A notably ripe yet fresh liqueur-like nose of red and blue pinot fruit nuanced by touches of undergrowth, earth, mint, stone and spice melds with rich, round and relatively polished middle weight flavors that are relatively open on the mid-palate yet firm up quickly on the long, powerful and driving finish. Lovely. - 90-92 points, Allen Meadows, Burghound issue #34 Latricières Chambertin Grand Cru 2007 £995 per 12 (IB) - add to basket There is tremendous purity of fruit on the nose of this beauty. The wine is broad, rich and vigorous with a seamless, flowing quality and a sense of untroubled, steady progress. Classy and distinctive, this should be hitting its stride from 2013. - armit (from a leased .3 ha parcel of 35+ year old vines that previously were exploited by Domaine Ponsot through 1994). Noticeable but not prominent wood influence highlights restrained, cool and stony red pinot fruit that gives way to textured, minerally and taut medium full-bodied flavors brimming with obvious minerality on the explosive and energetic finish that has plenty of underlying tension and detail. I very much like the balance and obvious class. - 91-93 points, Allen Meadows, Burghound issue #34 |
The reds came in first, starting from 28th August with the whites starting on 3rd September. Plenty of triage was needed for the Pinot in order to remove unripe and damaged fruit, causing a drop in volumes of up to 15%. ![]() In whites, the yield is more regular but the high levels of malic acid required a longer élevage meaning the wines are more backward and certainly less showy, returning to a fine, nervy, mineral style after the richness and power of the previous two vintages. They are closest to 2004 in style although have more flesh. As for the reds, thanks to the careful sorting and meticulous attention to detail in the vineyard, there is purity in abundance and brisk acidity. |
